OK, first of all, is swearing here against the rules? cos if it is then please dont kick me out COS I AM **KIN PISSSED OFF!!

Secondly before anybody makes any sly remarks about newbies should use the search button, DONT!!! cos i have for the last 2 hrs and i cant find the answers to my ques (also i get bored very easily so i read the first few lines and then stop, usually you have to read about 70 pages here before it answers your question.)

PLEASE do not direct me to a link cos thats all iv been doing, following links and im not getting anywhere, Especially not to videohelp cos it just doesn't make any sense, remember its much easier to start a new thread and have personal advice rather than searching hundreds of pages(so please have mercy on this noob)!

down to the question i want to burn both movies and ps2 games, what media should i use. i thought it was +r for games, that's what this old guy at my local market said, but apparently not, i also wanna burn movies, should i use -r for movies, and what the hell is this book typing business. no one seems to know, people just keep posting links to stupid websites that are toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo advanced for me
somebody please help me!!

Alot of veribles come into what media you use.

As of DVD-R or DVD+R it depends on what system your using and what type of media the system likes.

Example...

disc I use
PS2 -- DVD+R
GameCube -- DVD-R
Xbox -- DVD-R or DVD+R dosent matter for me.
DVD Backups -- DVD-R or DVD+R ( I have some standalone that likes DVD-R and some that like DVD+R

But just because this works for me dosent mean it will work for you.

You need to find Blank Media that works well on whatever system your using them on. Once you find that media stick with it.

Some Burners can booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM media which is supost to make it more compatible with players when you play them.

So if you have DVD+R media and whatever system your using it on cant read it or has trouble reading it you can try to booktype it to DVD-ROM and see if that helps out.

I would start out by looking at your standalone players and see what type of Blank Media it will read.

As for the PS2 the newer versions can usally use DVD-R or DVD+R but older versions can only read DVD-R.

So buy some small packs of media first and see how well they work on your system then once you find what works you can then buy them in bigger packs.

Also make sure the media you buy is good quilty media. Below is a guide on what brands and how to find if they are good quility media and what is poor.

hope some of this helps out.

mub6,
larrylje gave you maybe the best advise I have seen in a long while.

"So buy some small packs of media first and see how well they work on your system then once you find what works you can then buy them in bigger packs."

This thing is not an exact science, but again the more you read about it the more you learn.
Hang in there.

mub6,
Well, first off if you ask me, I would tell you burn those disks in fire. They won't last long if they do then you are a very lucky man.
Seriously, you should read up a bit on what kind of media is good. Will save you some headaches and some dollars. If you can exchange those disks to some Verbatims at the market, they should cost you about the same.
Second, booktyping has to be supported by your burner not all do. Look it up, if you can't post your brand and model number here someone will let you know. If it doesn't support booktyping, don't sweat it, you sould still be ok if you find the right media that your players recognize.

ok then why do all people say tha for games you must use +r and for movies use -r, should i just do the same. and ritek go4 and 5 are supposed to be good, the guy at the market neva had any t y's but said that these were the best disks he had along side... verbatim. but verbatim were only available in 50 pck spindle so i left them and bought a "small pack" of riteks instaed, that is what everyone told me to do

thanx for the reply any way, so should i use +r on games and should i post my model number here

@mub6

did you read what I said?

You need to find out yourself which work best for you.

So other people saying use this or that dont know what type of system you have and what works best on them.

They might say well I use these but that dosent mean they will work for you.

The only way your going to find out whats going to work for you is to get some media and USE THEM!

movie i use + R -R mess up for me. Also just cause the guy at the stores says thay are good doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about. We have a store called Frys here in dallas, when I went there I was talking to anouther custumer about Backing up DVDs, a sales rep came up, and through conversation we found out that nobody in the blank disc dept knew how to backup a dvd, but could recommend me a disc.
Now same thing may have happened to you. Now you have 2 people that have backed up DVDs telling you to get new media. I for 1 have backed up over 300 movies, so ya I know a lttle bit.
Now I can't speak for ps2 games though
You need to get some good media......... Fugi film DVD + R.... and TDK + R have worked for me, only cause verbatim isn't available where i shop. Find a copy of DVD Shrink, and DVD Decypter, and AnyDVD. Run a google search AD no longer can host them, or the guides you will need. these 3 programs are free.
Maybe if anouther person has some links on file they may post them up???
You may have better luck with the ps2 question in the Ps2 forums

thanks ok, so now thats what someone on another forum was tellin me, that i should use - for games, and i knew that u have to use the opposite one for movies so will try that and yes, will also go on ps2 forum
I think i just got slightly confused,
so since +r works for so many people with movies does that mean iv got a good chance of it working for me and ma mates if i wanna give em some dvd's (I KNOW IT JUST DEPENDS ON THEIR SYSTEM BUT I JUST WANT A ROUIGH GUIDE OR AN ESTIMATE!!!?)

Thanx anyway

I have backed up over 700 movies and I use DVD-R or DVD+R for movies.

For my PS2 I can use either or but I have better luck with DVD+R being more stable.

As of letting your friends and family borrow them. It would be impossible to get a DVD backup that would 100% be compatible with all DVD players. So id make sure they work on your system before worring about friends and familys system.

Its just not the quility of the DVD that matters it also depends on the quility of system your playing them on. So just because they will work for you does not mean they will work for your friends!!!!!! There is no correct answer for your question about letting your friends use them and working for them. They will either work or wont. But id rather them work for me before they work for others.

You have alot of people giving you advice already on this thread. The only way your going to find out your answer is to choose somones advice and do it and see if it works.
