We just bought this DVD recorder and have it hooked up. Problem is now I can only watch my cable channels through the DVD Recorder when the TV in on Video 1. If I go to regular tv input I only get channel 4 and can not get channels to change. I'm sure something is hooked up wrong but I swear we followed the instructions to the letter. And another question, why is it necessary to have a splitter?

UGH!!! I did do a manual record of the channel it was on (on Video 1) and it was crystal clear! I'm so glad I exchanged by Cyberhome 1600 for this unit, now if I can just get the whole thing working correctly!!! :-)

Bumping this because I really need help! Here is the hook up I have now

cable from wall to splitter- one going to cable box, the other going to RF1 on the ES20

Audio out with A/V cables from cable box to IN1 on ES20

OUT (red and white A/V cables) going to V1 in back of TV (what does L/Mono mean??)

S-Video cable going from Out on ES20 to S-Video on TV.

RF Out on ES20 going to Ant (75) on TV. I do not have anything that says RF In on tv.

I can view all of my cable channels (2-899) through the player when it is set to In 1. IF I turn the player off, and set TV input to regular setting instead of Video 1, I can not get my cable channels any longer. Can't get guide to come up, can't change channels.

I know this is probably really confusing but I'd appreciate any help. I'm a total goofball when it comes to these things (obviously)!

ok, a couple of things:

L/Mono means the left channel of stereo sound and if you only have mono (not likely) then use this connection. Ignore this, since I'm sure you have 2 audio cables - left and right (red and white cables)

Ant and RF in are the same thing.

I would try not using the splitter - just watch and record with your TV on video 1 (not a channel number) And change channels with ES20 remote. Video1 just means your tv is getting it's picture from the output of the ES20

does that help?

Try this, TV cable from cable box into ES-20 RF, TV cable out of ES-20RF, going into the TV,,, should be an open pass thru of cable channels to the TV,,, (not sure if you hafta power on, or off the ES20), but whatever. This will get all your cable channels back on your TV, BUT, maybe not stereo?,,, meaning no surround sound.

Then A/V cables out of cable box, left, & right, (red&white) to the ES-20, then S-video, or (a yellow video A/V cable), out of the cable box into the ES-20, This will get audio & Video to the ES-20, but you qwon't be able to view it till you do the next step,

Then A/V cables, audio & S-video, or yellow video, from the ES-20, to the respective A/V inputs on the TV,
Then when you hit Vid 1 on your TV, all the cable channels will be there! Thru the ES-20 But, this will be stereo, for playing or recording.

Good Luck, this is theoretically how it's done.
