I tried to copy a dvd movie from a copy that I made a couple of weeks ago. It would not copy so I tried to copy a different copy of another movie that I copyed. Every time I do this I get this error saying, dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
failed to read file "f:\\"
data error (cyclic redundancy check)
I use dvd shrink and dvd decypher and have had good luck with both of them. Do I have a wrong setting on dvd shrink that keeps giveing me this error? This error usually comes up between 70%-85%. What am I doing wrong. Thank you, razzel

i dont know if you are doing anything wrong with shrink? if i have to back up from a back up i just use DVD Decrypter to scan in & burn the dvd. this works for me, try decrypter as it will not need shrinking again anyway

There could be a problem with the media you made the original copy with. What brand do you use?
The easist way would be to create an image file with DVD Decrypter and then burn it using the same program.

razzel200 the reason it wont complete is your dvd has read errors ,to correct this use better media in the first place (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) and burn at 4x . you may be able to copy it, try DVD Decrypter ISO read ISO write, another program that works will for hard to read dvds is Intervideo DVDCopy 4 so give that a shot if DVD Decrypter doesnt work

I do re-rip quite a few of my backups. Lots of things to consider when you do this:
1) Quality media,preferably Taiyo yuden/Hitachi/Ritek/Mitsubishi/Ricohjpn
2) Quality burner/updated firmware
3) A 4x speed for par,but some of these quality burners actually perform better at a faster burn speed. You should be able to burn half of the speed rating on those discs.
4) Defrag harddrive
5) No paper/sticker labels
6) Effiecient pc,and keep registry errors cleaned out.
Problems occur during re-ripping is because of too many errors,or errors in the wrong spot-usually that CRC error. Burn speed and media quality is the usual culprits. Rule those 2 out, then that leaves burn engine and last would be your burner.
A good way to re-rip them is using DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read to hard drive and Mode ISO write, fish out the mds files, and burn.
Please answer the following questions to help narrow down problem:
1) What's the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media?MID code would help.
2) How fast did you burn them?
3) What burn engine do you use? Dvd decrypter/nero/copytodvd?
4) Paper/sticker labels?
5) What's the brand name and model# of your burner?
6) Burner drive only,or are you also using a separate dvd-rom drive?
7) PC specs: RAM/processor-speed/hard drive space available/all other dvd backup programs other than the ones you listed.
I've had quite a few pc burners:6,and a couple of them would have too many read errors and unable to be re-ripped. We have to narrow down the problem.

Saugmon does make a good point. But why did you have to re-rip again? Why not just use nero and burn what you have already compressed. Saugmon mentioned a few good Media to consider as well as firmware updates. I have experienced that when I receive the same Redundency Code, and from my experience it was the disc! If you get a high quality disc you will not have this problem in my opinion.
The following link provides a great DVD-R disc for $0.20 a disc. I have had great results with it, It's call GREAT AZO, and it can be compare to Taiyo Yuden and Ritek but a whole lot cheaper!

@holleyron
Saugmon suggested the re-rip because razzel200 never got the entire movie onto his HDD

I think I read that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I also read was sometimes re-ripping an already compress movie is better for a couple of reasons. But I think is the disc that he used to rip the movie in the first place, and from my experiance when I tried to re-rip I could not with certain brands of disc. Therefore I suggested using a high quality disc from the get go.

This is why I commented, you asked why saugmon would suggest the re-rip.

I think aabbccdd and saugmon have both touched on the media issue as well. If you must reiterate all that has been said, please continue to do so.

No, I asked why Razzel200 had to re-rip what he had already ripped. I used Saugmon in the third person, and the question was in the second person which refers to Razzel200.

I will try to answer Saugmom questions.
1)the brand name of the disk.(not for sure what they were. I bought them from office maxx. They were cheap on sale for $11.24 for 100 of them.) (I think this must be my problem.)I got down to the last 5 disk and it wouldn't copy on them
2) I burn at 4x
3)I use DVD Shrink-DVD Decrypter-Nero
4)I use paper labels
5)My burner is a Memorex 8x (never have had any problems with burner. I have burned a lot of dvd disk
6)Have a burner dvd drive and a cd burner
7) I have 1.12 gig memory-processor is 1.7 m-have 90 gig of free hard drive space. and I have dvd fab decrypyter. I hope this will help.I think it is my dvd disk that is giveing me the problem. Thanks every one, razzel

Razzel200,
Wow, now that you mention what brand of DVD you're using I can see why you are having problems. Listen, GREAT AZO uses a high quality dye, and I never had a coaster or any pixelating DVD's yet using these and I have used about 300! Check this out for quality; I tried to do a straight DVD movie to DVD burn with nero in quick mode, using Memorex, Sony and Maxell. With those disc buring at 4x & 8x speed, this disc still pixelated. But when I use the GREAT AZO, I was on high from the quality it produced and I did them in 14 minute flat at 4x speed! Perfect Quality! From now on I'm not using anything else but GREAT AZO, and Taiyo Yuden & Ritek Inkjet printable hub disc if needed, Only.
Never buy the store brand; office depot, staples, office max, circuit city etc.. They will coast and pixelate.
Try these disc http://www.meritline.com/hq-8x-dvd-r-media.html You can also try a 2 disc sampler pack for testing http://www.meritline.com/dvd-r-sample-azo-8x-dual-dvd-case.html

Oh I forgot. If you would not mine burning at 2x speed. Heres an awesome deal on GREAT AZO http://www.meritline.com/azo-2x-dvd-r-media.html. I've using them to copy disc for my brother on my free time, and the quality is the same as the 8x speed disc! It's currently not in stock because they have been selling like blueberry hotcakes. A 1000 DVD's for 99.00 bucks, I got mine, and when they offer them again I'm going to get 2000 this time.

HP is not the greatest media around.
As already suggested stick with Verbatim Advanced AZO, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell(made in Japan).

4)I use paper labels
I've been in Office Max once. I noticed they carried: Khypermedia/Nextech?/and maybe ESA? which would fall in that price range when on sale. They had some very weird named media. I wouldn't even consider trying to re-rip any backups that were on those brands.
They also had some good stuff like verbatim.
Paper/sticker labels are also a major contributor to re-ripping issues. They can cause the discs to be unbalanced and absorb heat. They can even start peeling up after a while. Try peeling one of those labels off of a disc that won't re-rip and see if you are able to re-rip it.
I didn't mean anything about the burner quality as being bad. 4x burn speed is par for most burners. My benq 1640 performs a heck of a lot better at 8x and 12x speed using quality media. I have more issues at 2.4x burning-too many errors, and 4x is slightly better. The 8x and 12x give me better scans-less of those socalled little errors. A program like dvdinfopro can show you these little errors.
I also re-rip On the Fly,therefore bypassing the hard drive. This is also another good test to see the quality of your backups. I have yet to coaster a disc using on the fly disc copy with Nero.400+ backups using that method. It is riskier. If your dvd-rom drive has trouble reading while your DVD-RW drive is burning, you'll probably coaster it out. Again, media quality and paper labels will be the culprit.
