Ok I have noticed that when I have AnyDvd running in the background to remove any encryption from a movie while using Shrink,I can make a backup of a movie when burning the ISO image.Ok now comes the funny part. When I want to make another backup of the same movie once I have deleted the ISO image from the first burn,I insert the first burned movie into my drive and it will open up nicely.(Where it asks you what option you want to do in windows)ie. play movie etc..
bith then when I open up shrink or Fab or Decrypter to make another ISo of the same movie I get error messages.Example when I open up Decrypter it will go through the files and for some reason it will freeze on some of the .IFo files and will act like it's decrypting and will just freeze and will not decrypt anymore.Any Ideas?

I have tried making extra backups of Lord Of War,Two For The Money and they do not want to decrypt at all.I have also tried to have AnyDvd running in the background but the info window will take forever to open up and once it does open up to display info it will give me this message:

Warning!

Failed to read DVD!
This could have several reasons:
1.DVD media is dirty, you can try to clean it.
2.DVD media is damaged, you have to replace it.
3.Your drive is a region locked RPC2 drive, which does not allow reading of scrambled sectors from a different region and you try to read a DVD from a different region.
4.Your drive is an RPC2 drive that has not yet been assigned a region.Try to assign one,or try to find a RPC1 patched firmware at http://www.rpc1.com

Any ideas?

i have not had any problems decrypting back ups. i'm sure you have checked that the discs are clean & scratch free. other than that is the media good quality? i would try uninstalling & reinstalling decrypter & see if that helps

I do re-rip quite a few of my backups. Lots of things to consider when you do this:

1) Quality media,preferably Taiyo yuden/Hitachi/Ritek/Mitsubishi/Ricohjpn
2) Quality burner/updated firmware
3) A 4x speed for par,but some of these quality burners actually perform better at a faster burn speed. You should be able to burn half of the speed rating on those discs.
4) Defrag harddrive
5) No paper/sticker labels
6) Effiecient pc,and keep registry errors cleaned out.

Once a backup is made, there is no need for anydvd to be running. I keep mine disabled until the time arises to use it,like Flightplan.
Dvd shrink and your burn program should be able to re-rip and burn.

Problems occur during re-ripping is because of too many errors,or errors in the wrong spot. Burn speed and media quality is the usual culprits. Rule those 2 out, then that leaves burn engine and last would be your burner. I'm surprised you haven't encountered any crc errors.

A good way to re-rip them is using dvd decrypter in Mode ISO read to hard drive and Mode ISO write, fish out the mds files, and burn.

Please answer the following questions to help narrow down problem:
1) What's the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media?
2) How fast did you burn them?
3) What burn engine do you use? Dvd decrypter/nero/copytodvd?
4) Paper/sticker labels?
5) What's the brand name and model# of your burner?
6) Burner drive only,or are you also using a separate dvd-rom drive?
7) PC specs: RAM/processor-speed/hard drive space available/all other dvd backup programs other than the ones you listed.

I've had quite a few pc burners:6,and a couple of them would have too many read errors and unable to be re-ripped. We have to narrow down the problem.

@Saugmon

I am using the following:

1) What's the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media? SONY 8X DVD+ AND - R'S

2) How fast did you burn them? 8X

3) What burn engine do you use? Dvd decrypter/nero/copytodvd? DECRYPTER AND NERO

4) Paper/sticker labels? PRINTABLE DVD'S

5) What's the brand name and model# of your burner? PIONEER DVR-108

6) Burner drive only,or are you also using a separate dvd-rom drive? BURNER DRIVE ONLY
7) PC specs: RAM/processor-speed/hard drive space available/all other dvd backup programs other than the ones you listed.

I HAVE 2GB OF RAM 220 GB OF AVAILABLE SPACE

I ALSO USE FAB DECRYPTER.

I don't know if maybe the settings in AnyDVD might have been the culprit. When I ripped the movie I had All of the options in AnyDVD checked and I just used Shrink.I didn't use Decrypter or FabDecrypter to rip the movie.I simply used AnyDVD and Shrink. Now when I try to make another copy of the disc I burned it will give me error messages in both Decrypter and Fab.I don't know what the problem is.

After your first backup from the original: You can make an extra copy from those files on your harddrive if you don't delete them right away.

In the backup options,you'll have:

Select folder for temporary files-this is where those files go onto hard drive in case you need extra copies.

Simply open up dvd shrink/open files/locate that movie you just did. It'll do a very quick 30 sec ananlyzation/Click backup and you can then set the next set of temporary files to go in an entirely different folder-call it Old movies or something like that. Then OK.

This will be quicker than re-ripping that backup-20 mins at 4x,but not as quick as on the fly-15 mins at 4x.

You've got plenty of HD space. I keep my movies on the hard drives for a couple of months-until I delete them when I know I am done with them. If I need a copy of something here and there,I just go and find those files and burn like I do most of my originals.

To check for errors on your backup discs, use dvdinfopro. You can get the free version-with adverts here:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

Scan a couple of them and see how they score.Takes about 20-25 mins a scan. I use the PI/PO error scan.

I know how to do all of that but I'm the type of person that once I make an Iso of a movie I delete the files to regain my disc space. My problem comes after I burn the movie and want to make another copy of that same movie using the disc I just burned. When I do this using Decrypter it scans the IFo files and then stops on some of the last files it scans and gives me an error when it's parsing the IFO files which is:

I/O error

I have a feeling those Sony's are made in Taiwan. That being said, you state that you are burning at 8X, not a recommended speed...but do what works for you, which it doesn't seem to be working. Could you post the log from DVD Decrypter please?

Here's something to try:

Reduce your backup target in dvd shrink:

Open shrink
edit
Preferences
Click dvd-5
Scroll till custom-keep it there
Enter 4360
OK

That's your new backup target. I keep mine set at 4360,thus keeping the burn from reaching the outer edge of disc, which sounds like the are you are having difficulty ripping.

Try making your first backup copy with that target, and then give a re-rip a try is see if she'll work.

Not good media on this one, could be why you are getting the error. They're also at the end of the disk, did you burn too close to the edge on this one?

I saw that too arniebear. That is your problem. The original backup/sorce media cmc mag is garbage. What brand of media was the first/original backup recorded to? I've never heard of sony buying from cmc mag. Sony must be what you are trying to make another copy on correct.

Any of my old backups that were made before I got enlightened on CMC Mag all have errors and cannot be reripped. It is the trash bin for all of them, glad it was only a few.

Just as suspected, Taiwanese Sony's=CMC Mag...total crap. The Japanese Sony's should be good though if you want to stick with that brand, also reduce your target size as already suggested.

LOCOENG,

I don't think sony buys any of their media from cmc mag, even the taiwan made stuff. I think poolpro is using sony media now to try to make another copy from the original backup which was burned on some other brand with that cmc mag media code. If I'm wrong, I'll eat crow.

Ok guys I am having problems with both Maxell(CMC MAG) and Sony branded Taiyo's. For some reason any ripping program can't decrypt some of my backups.I am mostly having problems with The Fog.

I think even though I had the latest version of AnyDVD it still copied the bad sectors onto the burned discs.I even tried Alkohols method and still can't rerip this movie.

@Mort

I thought the Taiwan Sony's were outsourced to alot of different makers including CMC Mag...but I see what you are saying, ripping from a CMC Mag and burning with a Sony.

poolpro,

Are the discs you are trying to rip original pressed dvd's or backups you have already made? I'm confused. The log you provided showed the media as being cmc mag which is total garbage and is most likely causing your problems due to crc errors. Cmc mag is well known for this. You will most likely have to make a new backup from the original pressed dvd onto some good quality media. DVD Decrypter iso read then iso write is probably your best option for trying to copy a disc that has crc errors.

@Mort81

No they are notthe original copy's.They are from discs I have already burned.I know CMC MAG is crap but wat I am also saying is that this has been happening even with great media such as my Taiyo's.Even on Verb's and other Sony media discs.I guess maybe it's the setting I use on AnyDVD. Does anyone know which setting are best when using AnyDVD?

I have all the options checked to on in the DVD Feature Removal.I don't know if I should leave it the way it is or if I should change something.

Your settings on AnyDVD will not matter it is just a driver that breaks encryption it does nothing more. However,
Quote:
2) How fast did you burn them? 8X
try slowing it to 4x and then rerip, your speed may be causing these errors.
