Hi,

I'm trying to back up a dvd. when I look at the DVD it's a CDFS format, what ever that is (start my compter device).
I can see all the files in explorer but I cant copy them. I did try DVD Decrypter. but when I put the DVD into my PC it takes ages to show the files, seems to lock up my PC.

probably cause DVD Decrypter is far out of date. for a basic dvd backup, download and install DVDFab Decrypter, extract teh files to your hard drive, if necessary compress with DVD Shrink then burn with Nero or your choice program.

Hi,

Sorry to bring this up, but my original thread was regarding recognition of my DVD's and NOT anything to do with PS2 games!!

Boyzone, Get shrink on your computer and get AnyDVD trial. Open shrink with AnyDVD running in the background. That's enough to get through encryption. Re-author mode open your drive with dvd in it and you will see all that the dvd is made up with... menus and chapters. You double click which chapters to bring to the left side and then make an ISO image, even save it to hard drive. When done open dvddecrypter, on mode go with write iso. Open file and browse. You do this once and every time you open files in dvddecrypter it will show your ISO's. VERY simple this way and high odds of completion. Use good media, verbatim, sony,of course TY's. If you want all the menus and everything go with full disc backup. For know take the extra step to burn. Good luck Easier ISO rather than files!!

Hi to you all.

Well I did load "Shrink" and tried this but I still not extract the files, I kept getting a message telling me that the fiels were corrupt.
Having said that I then tried a program that I had, but never used called "FABDVD Platinum" and it worked for some of the DVD's that I was trying to make copies.
What is the difference between DVD Decrypter and DVD Fab?

I don't know. I don't use it. When you work with it as an ISO image it makes a copy of the files as a whole not as files or file structure. That should have worked if another program worked. Some protection jacks with file stucture making it appear as errors. Making an ISO image will help you get past this in the future. Did you get AnyDVD on your computer?

Hi

Yes I do have AnyDVD.

I'm not too sure what you mean by making an ISO image?

Within dvd decrypter you can rip in file mode or iso. In shrink when you bring titles or chapters to the left side, it will go through an analyzing phase, 1 min or 2. This is where if shrink goes through this process it WILL back up your target. So you have your target to the left side. If you want just open disc not files. I prefer re-author then double click the drive with your dvd you want to back up. So you have what you want to the left side. Hit back-up. This is where you decide where you want it to go. Put it on your harddrive and take notice of the name of the iso so you can find it later to burn. Explore. Anydvd and shrink will do nearly everything you will want or need. Good luck!

In shrink open disc or re-author and double click the drive with the dvd. Use shrink then use decrypter to burn.

the funny thing about it is that in my experiences CDFS is compact disc file system (CD) not dvd which is usualy UDF format...
the non-strange thing about it is that you could no copy the files from explorer.... if dvdfab failed then all i can say is have you checked your system resources to see whether they are being heavily used or not ?

otherwise im outta ideas

Hi Phanton69,

I'm nearly at that stage of giving up trying to back up this DVD. WHen I put the DVD in the ROM drive it seems to run, but seems to lock the PC and takes out all the desktop icons, and yet when I check CPU usage it's only 5%. If I remove the DVD the icon return..How strange is that??
It looks as if the DVD is trying to be read, but for some unknown reason falls over.
I think this will end up being thrown through the window.

sounds like explorer.exe crashes when you isnert the disk... hmmm.
have you tried opening the disk up with ISOBuster, then trying to extract the files manualy... this could work and since it would not be accessing the drive through explorer, it may prevent the crash and allow you to extract the files, then try burning with Nero or your burning app choice...

see if this works.

if you try twice and it doesnt work or explorer crashes again, do not try again
