I have a 4x divd external burner. When i use dvd-r's that are higher than 4x, my burner burns at 2.4x. Is it possible to get my burner to burn higher than 2.4x or 4x?

To get a 4X burner to burn at higher than 4X, you have to replace it. 4X is the HIGHEST speed it will burn at. To get it to burn at that speed, make sure the firmware is updated to the latest, and buy some good blanks.

so if the disc is a 16x and my burner is only a 4x, i can update the firmware so that it will always burn at 4x instead of the 2.4x that i usually get a higher than 4x DVDR to burn at.

yes update your firmware ,if the burner is 4x max. you wont be able to burn faster than the rated speed of the burner so theres NO reason to buy 16x media in the first place just get 4x(which is getting very hard to fine) or 8x which is everywhere
