they may last longer than 6 months but its a gamble and YES using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim will fix the problem.good media (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) are said to last 100 plus years

It's not a dvd, but I've been running some tests on different media cause I have some memorex hanging around as well as some maxell and shtuff.
Point is, burnt a memorex cd bout a week ago. Been playing it in my car pretty much whenever I go somewhere so it's played let's say about 20 times. I've already begun to hear falters in the cd and it gives me errors once in awhile.
How's that for crappy?
My two cents.

read my last response to the whole "digitalfaq" thang here in this thread...do NOT take their rankings as "set in stone"...their list is far from being completely "accurate" and it is biased in MANY aspects...

@chrism
well, i don't think too highly of Memorex as they use CMC MAG in a LOT of their media at various rated speeds, i'm curious as to the ones that you say "still work fine" code out as?
IF you got lucky, you could have gotten these:
Memorex DVD+R 4.7GB MCC.....004 16x (i use the MCC004 Verbatims with GREAT success, but, you would be LUCKY to get these under the Memorex label)
Memorex DVD+R 4.7GB RICOHJPNR01 4x (these are fairly decent too, but slower 4x speed)
Memorex DVD+R 4.7GB RICOHJPNR03 16x (once again, not bad..but, depends on your "luck of the draw" whether you got them or not...)
Memorex DVD+R 4.7GB RITEK...R03 8x (ritek...decent again...this media id code can also be found on the Office Depot house brand of 8x DVD+R as well as Maxell's "made in taiwan" in the same rated speed~)
other than those, everything else memorex has is basically CRAP...from CMC MAG manufacturers to Prodisc to Philips to Moser Baer India...they got a whole "melting-pot" of poor quality manufacturers under their "Memorex" brand...so be VERY weary...that's why MOST people here will recommend you stay away from Memorex, it's just not worth the headache and risk to get some of the crappy manufacturers that is predominantly on MOST of their media...
hope that clarifies a bit for you...

keeping them stored properly, they should last quite a long time...nobody REALLY knows the lifespan of dvds, but i can assure you that the ricohjpn are MUCH better quality than the CMC MAG manufacturers along with the other poor ones i mentioned earlier.
