It's warm today so it's nice strong ICED coffee.

Beginning tomorrow, I'm on vacation for two weeks...if one considers moving and setting up a new place to be a vacation. I'm going to set up my accidental brothal. I got such great deals on the internet: an ornate chinese rug, some tiffany lamps, some neat wicker furniture including a chaise-lounge and some large cane palms at home depot. I got a particularly good deal on these large and ornate gold frames topped with art lighting (shortly after my mens' room wall days, I painted a bunch of nudies for a few competitions). This should prove really interesting. As arniebear suggested though, I need to get some peacock feathers to make the whore-house look complete!

Astrology for your exact date of birth
May 26, 2006 4:00 AM PDT

Paul Sadowski has constructed a tool that allows you to get astrological information based on your exact birth date. Even if you don't believe in this stuff, it's still interesting for the statistics included on each page, such as the U.S. population, birth and divorce rates at the time you were born.

Serious' Symantec hack threat

p2p news / p2pnet: There's a serious security hole in some Symantec applications, says eEye Digital Security.

And users don't have to actually do anything for it to be activated.

"A remotely exploitable vulnerability exists within the Symantec Antivirus program," states the company.

"This flaw does not require any end user interaction for exploitation and can compromise affected systems, allowing for the execution of malicious code with SYSTEM level access."

The company describes the security risk as "high" and says Symantec Antivirus 10.x and Symantec Client Security 3.x have been confirmed as being risk software:

"Other Symantec Antivirus products are also potentially affected, waiting for vendor list," adds eEye.

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Harman, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. "The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in," says The Globe & Mail. AllofMP3.com under attack

p2p news / p2pnet: Using their IFPI as the hammer and the media as the anvil, the Big Four members of the Organized Music cartel are ramping up their efforts to eliminate AllofMP3.com, the Russian download service which represents one of the strongest elements of competition facing them.

Charging around 60 to 85 cents wholesale for lossy digital files from meagre catalogues, the Big Four are trying to establish themselves as the virtual sole suppliers of music online with the likes of iTunes as their points of distribution.

Consequently, the tiny handful of online corporate sites which have any kind of presence are forced to charge upwards of $1 for each download to merely break even.

Music lovers are staying away from them in droves. Warner Music, Sony BMG, Vivendi Universal and EMI are nonetheless disingenuously claiming there's a booming online music market.

Now, "AllofMP3.com, a Moscow-based service that undercuts iTunes by enormous margins, was accused today of paying nothing to artists," says Out-Law.com.

"The website, run by MediaServices Inc., has long protested its innocence. Yet the prices are remarkable: a British shopper can download an album from iTunes Music Store for £9.79 (almost $18.20); or typically about £0.75 (about $1.40) from AllofMP3, which prices its downloads by file size."

No wonder music fans are avoiding Big Four 'product' like the plague.

On AllofMP3.com, however, "the choice is enormous," says the story. "All those Beatles albums that Apple is not allowed to sell can be found at AllofMP3.com for under a pound."

How is it able to offer its wares at such reasonable prices?

Symantec Says Its Own AV Product Has Zero-Day Vulnerability

The security vendor says its enterprise anti-virus product line has an unpatched, "zero-day" vulnerability that can be used by attackers to hijack systems.

Symantec acknowledged on Friday that its enterprise anti-virus product line has an unpatched, "zero-day" vulnerability that can be used by attackers to hijack systems.

"Symantec Antivirus is susceptible to a remote code-execution vulnerability. This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges, facilitating the complete compromise of affected computers," the company said in an alert Friday to customers of its own DeepSight Threat Management System.

Thursday, security vendor eEye Digital released a preliminary alert that said Symantec AntiVirus 10.x and Symantec Client Security 3.x included a remotely-exploitable vulnerability that could be attacked via a network-style worm which wouldn't require any user interaction to compromise a computer.

In a truncated advisory posted to its own Web site, however, Symantec claimed that none of its Norton-labeled consumer-grade anti-virus titles were at risk. Those products include Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security.

The Cupertino, Calif. security giant also downplayed the risk. "Symantec has not had any reports of any related exploits of this suspected vulnerability," a company spokesman said in an e-mail to TechWeb. "[And] Symantec Product Security is working on providing prompt mitigation solutions for any confirmed issues," he added.

The spokesman, however, would not comment on a timeline to patch the vulnerability nor on any results of its investigation.

"Specific details are being withheld by Symantec and the researchers that found this vulnerability, eEye Digital Security, until updates are available," Symantec said in the DeepSight alert. "This is to prevent development of exploits and malicious code while a fix is pending."

The last time a major security vendor had a vulnerability that was attacked b a no-user-interaction worm was in 2004, when Internet Security Systems' (ISS) BlackICE Firewall was victimized by the "Witty" worm. Within days of the ISS vulnerability being disclosed (and patched), Witty infected 10,000-50,000 systems worldwide, and destroyed data on some enterprise hard drives.

This is for those who want to send more than 10mb in there email attachments...like me, lol

PANDO

Pando is free software that lets you send and receive files and folders of any size* with your existing email account.

http://www.pando.com/beta/what

I will give a quick pro's and cons.

Pro's
1. Can send up to 1gb of files and folders of any size
2. It's free
3. very fast and can limit your upload rate like a torrent (very neat if you ask me) And has a progress bar.

Con's
1. Have to register, but no problem at all
2. The other individual also has to have Pando software to be able to receive the attachment, which means they also have to register.
3.uuhh thats about it.

I love this software and highly recommend it.

"Ubuntu",.....Linux for Human Beings

"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". Ubuntu also means "I am what I am because of who we all are". The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.

A picture of the Circle-of-Friends Ubuntu login screen.Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. It is developed by a large community and we invite you to participate too!

The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Philosophy: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit.

These freedoms make Ubuntu fundamentally different from traditional proprietary software: not only are the tools you need available free of charge, you have the right to modify your software until it works the way you want it to.

The team behind Ubuntu makes the following public commitment to its users:

*

Ubuntu will always be free of charge, and there is no extra fee for the "enterprise edition", we make our very best work available to everyone on the same Free terms.
*

Ubuntu comes with full commercial support from hundreds of companies around the world. Ubuntu is released regularly and predictably; a new release is made every six months. Each release is supported with free security updates and fixes for at least 18 months.
*

Ubuntu will include the very best in translations and accessibility infrastructure that the Free Software community has to offer, to make Ubuntu usable by as many people as possible. We collaborate as widely as possible on bug fixing and code sharing.
*

Ubuntu is entirely committed to the principles of free software development; we encourage people to use free and open source software, improve it and pass it on.

Ubuntu is suitable for both desktop and server use. The current Ubuntu release supports PC (Intel x86), 64-bit PC (AMD64) and PowerPC (Apple iBook and Powerbook, G4 and G5) architectures.

Ubuntu includes more than 16,000 pieces of software, but the core desktop installation fits on a single CD. Ubuntu covers every standard desktop application from word processing and spreadsheet applications to internet access applications, web server software, email software, programming languages and tools and of course several games.

Ubuntu Community

The extended Ubuntu community includes translators, software developers, teachers, people who love to hand out CDs and help friends try free software, artists, people who write documentation, tips and guides, accountants, even a lawyer or two. Whatever your personal interest or vocation we would value your participation. Here is a list of ideas for new participants, or just join an IRC channel, a forum or a mailing list and find your niche.

A picture of the Ubuntu Fridge. The Fridge is an information hub for the Ubuntu community, bringing together news, grassroots marketing, advocacy, team collaboration, and great original content. Just like the family fridge at home, this is where we - the Ubuntu family - can put our best work on display for everyone to see ? along with the requisite jokes, reminders, invitations, news clippings, photos and everything else!

Support Options

Many companies around the world offer technical support for Ubuntu, you can find a list of some of them in the Ubuntu Marketplace. There are many support options, from free community support to full commercial support with escalation to the core Ubuntu team.
