DVD burners tend to vary considerably in their abilities to burn/backup.

There are many variables that impact on burning including OS, memory, copy/write speed, brand of media, copy program used, system resources etc. to name a few.

Some brands appear to be more reliable than others with some generic or rebadged brands fairly unreliable. It is like asking - are all brands of cars identical.

The most common problem with DVD burning other than a combination of the variables listed above is normally a malfunctioning interface between the keyboard and the computer.

Well if you have EVERYTHING set up right, there's not disruption in the data feed or anything then no. All it does is take instructions and do what you tell it. If you are doing everything right then no. If you keep it in such good conditiona as if it was never used then no.
