I have only been buring for a couple of weeks, but it used to take only between 15 to 30 minutes to encode but now it is taking over an hour. any suggestions????

Is your DMA on? Crowded/fragged HD? to much spy/mal/ad ware? What are your quality settings? The compression has to do with the time, the more compression needed for a movie the more time it's gonna take.

sounds like you got kicked into PIO mode instead od DMA mode which you should be in use this guide to fix it
