I've had the LVW-5007 model for almost a year. It works great. Keep up with the firmware updates and it should be fine.

I bought a LVW-5005 almost two years ago, then a year later I bought another ... as far as updating the firmware.. if you update too far, you can't do a Macrovision hack .. I updated the fw on my older unit and backdated the fw on my newer one so that the fw is the same for both (098)

Have two ilo RHD04 units made by LiteOn. Good units. I would have bought a LiteOn 5045 but got a very good buy on my 2nd ilo. Get one with a HDD if you can
Be aware of [catfreek] warning on the firmware or any upgades, or the model # if you want to hack it

I bought the LiteON LVW-5005 a month ago (no letters added after the 5005, just plain LVW-5005) new on Ebay from pcpartsoutletsales. These are already modified for eliminating copywrite protection (macrovision), region free, PAL or NTSC, 3X speed record/playback (unmodifieds already have 1x, 2x, 4x, 6x, the mod adds 3x too).
They also sell modifed 5045 which have a HDD.
The 5005 are no longer made, so mine cost $20 less than the same seller price now: going up!
I followed guru Catfreak's recomended advice: +R and +RW DVD media from Verbatim, (mine are rated 4X speed) and found no bad discs, they all worked perfectly, all mods perfect too, and mine did include the factory cooling fan inside, some older units don't.
IOW, I vote yes!

To be more precise, the +R 4x media mentioned is Verbatim Digital Movie, the label (copyright 2003) says made by Mitsubishi Chem Corp.

my liteon 5005, stopped recognizing +R all together. not playing or recording.
It was still doing -R, so I worked with those. Then it started making a real loud noise while trying to program the new DVD, and wouldn't work. I downloaded the firmware..........it worked. now, 5 days later, it is back to being loud and not programming. I tried to re-download the firmware..........nothing.
Have to break out my old ilo05 and see if it works now by some miracle ??
fuk DVD recorders. oh well, i think by the end of the year, i will have 5, none of them working, lol

I have an old Sony 500AX. Paid out the butt for it. :)
But it has given me over 1K successful burns. 3 coasters - all recently on Sony media. I think the laser is starting to go. :(
I too might look at a Lite On for my next burner.
