I've used my dvd burner on many acations with no problems before.

recently i tride to re flash the dvd ram with the proper drivers i found on the website and my computer crashed half way threw the process.

Ever since that happend i can no longer even open my dvd rom nor does the computer reconize it what so ever as even being there.

Now i formatted my computer since and still i have the same problem and it is still unresponsive.

My dvd burner is an Aopen dual layerd dvd burner.

any suggestions on what to do next other then contact the Manufacturer would be greatly appreciated.

If by flash you mean firmware upgrade only a return to the manufacturer can repair your firmware or buy a new burner
Sorry :-(

I'm afraid philraz is right. You'll have to get it repaired by the manufacturer or you'll have to buy a brand new burner.

You are not quite clear as to what you did ! Is it a firmware flash you did on the AOpen burner ? What model is it ?

Is the light flickering on it when you boot the PC ? Can you connect it as a Master all by itself on your secondary IDE channel?

Did you do a LiveUpdate or did you download from AOpen site the latest firmware then ran the exe. ? Did you have any CSS remover such as AnyDVD running in your tray while the firmware was being done ?

Latest firmware is R1.11 from AOpen -- was that the firmware you tried ?

The DVD rom does not respond what so ever, no light flickers or anything and the computer can not see it at all.

I've tried connecting it as a master all by itself and had the same problem, no response what so ever.

It was while I was doing the live update that this all happend when it began to re flash the firmware, my computer froze in the middle of the process, i restarted and then it acted as if it wasent even there.

I did have daemon tools running while I was doing this if that could make a difference...

Thank you for the help you have given me so far. Again anything else would be appreciated.

OOOOps.... Daemon Tool being used could be the reason -- am afraid you do not have much choice now -- There are good burners available cheap nowadays -- Try to get in the top 3 or 4 -- AOpen is not what you would say , a jewel !

@CMG

When you update a firmware you are actually writing data to an EProm ; the smallest glitch that comes when you are doing this, will burn that EProm and render the thing unusable. That is why most manufacturers and people hacking firmware will caution people to shut down all applications before you start an update -- ! Doing it with Live Update is not as secure as when you download the exe file and do it on your desktop.

have a look at some reviews here :- http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/hard18.htm
