just curious if my western digital hard drive (7200rpm-160 gb)would work in my ps2 with any mod chip or do i need a certian one NEED HELP

you dont need a chip at all to have a working HDD, the chip has nothing at all to do with it working or not. some chips give you access to the HDD without the need for a boot disk (HD Advance/HD Loader).

You can use only certain types of HD in the ps2 because it will only detect certain models. here is a good place to check for that hope this is more helpful let me know:

Also most Western Digitals dont physically fit inside the playstation, and others need the network adaptor modified because of where the plugs are. You dont need a mod to access your HDD but it helps. The ways you can access it are either by purchasing HDloader/HDadvance, setting up a memory card exploit with HDloader/HDadvance on it, get a modchip that allows you to access it/has its own HDloader built in (like the DMS4 Pro) or load a backup/downloaded HDloader/HDadvance with your modchip.
