I've backed up about 5 dvds with dvd shrink and theyve all worked fine. Now im trying to back up the 40 year old virgin and my pc freezes a few minutes into the process. If anybody knows why this is happening or how to back it up another way please tell me. Thanks.

Does this happen every time when using/running shrink or only with is movie?

The 40 yr old virgin was an easy rip, there is nothing special or difficult about backing up this flick. I used Shrink alone, but re-authored the DVD so as to backup the main movie only and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel. Here is a guide on re-authoring using DVDshrink....

Its only happened with this movie. The other movies were all new and worked perfectly but my computer doesnt seem to like this one. It just freezes at about 8 or 9% I also re-authored by taking out the extras and foreign languages as I did with the other dvds. It may just be my computer.

Is the computer locking up or rebooting all of a sudden?

DVDshrink is ver cpu intensive, meaning it's really working that processor. If the processor is getting too hot during the backup process the computer can lockup and/or reboot. Open the computer case and make sure all cooling fans are working/spinning properly, especially the one for the prcessor. Remove all the dust you can clogging up the fans. Since at this point youve got the case open, leave it open and try the backup process again and see what happens.

Is the disk badly scratched, smudged, or dirty, if so clean it and retry.

An alternative to shrink for the ripping process is DVDFab decrypter, it's a whole movie ripper so you'll still need shrink to shrink it. Here is a link.

hope this helps.
