Wierd Old Swap Magic problem?

well I used to have a ps2 with a mod chip about 2 years ago. but my mom thought I was too addicted to it so she smashed it. long sad story. Point is I always held onto my swap magic cds.
My friend let me borrow his ps2 lately, and knew I knew a little about modding so he asked me to mod his for him. Well it turns out I used the tissue and tape method since he has a slim ps2; but all I could find was my cd swap magic which is pretty old... it just says 3.0.
Cd's run fine. but I wanted to play dvd games... so I inserted swap magic, waited for load game screen, pressed the eject button and inserted Burnout revenge andwaited for the TOC to refresh. I then waited for the load game screen to return and inserted my copied version of narutimate hero 3. all went well until I got into a fight.... the fight lasted 20 seconds and froze... I thought it was the cd but it wasn't because it worked fine with my friends dvd swap magic for hours.
I then tried We love Katamari with the same process, it worked but took about 7 minutes to load for each loading screen and music was pretty chopped up. I tried loading it a second time using Shadow of Collusus instead of burnout for the TOC and Katamari ran perfectly.
My Question is, What is my problem? is it the TOC? is it the lack of a Dvd swap magic? perhaps the outdated version of swap magic? or maybe something totally different.... Help eh?

You could try not doing a TOC refresh because Slims don't use TOC refresh cuz they don't need them and you could try using the Swap Magic CD to boot up CD Loader then do that whole proccess. swapmagicfix.com

Did you do SMD--->CD Loader--->Ejrect button to original DVD game----> swap with backup?

Aye, I've done (swap magic CD --> dvd for toc --> cdloader --> load)
swap CD --> cdloader --> load

CDLoader was pants for me, never helped at all. I think it's outdated, or the version I had was anyway.
ZoneLoader worked great on my problem games.

Ok zoneloader isn't working either... someone help please... none of these loaders are working at all eh.

nah it works fine if I use my friends swap magic 3.6... but it's when I use my old 3.0 swap cd that it doesn't work.... the background just keeps going pink when I click load to load the cdloaders.

Yeah just buy a new Swap Magic 3.6 from iHackPS2.org for only 19 $ w/ a slide card or magic switch! I've bought from them before got my items in 2 days!

Ah, I just stumbled on something, I tried using larger TOC's but no help... then I realised the games only freeze during times when sound is used during actual gameplay... what does this mean?
For example : during Metal Gear solid the game only freezes when snakes voice is supposed to be heard.
Or in frontmission 4 when the chars first start talking.
This would explain why Katamari works considering no one ever talks!

I'm soo close to finding the problem... I can almost taste it... which is Ironic seeing as how I popped in my copied copy of mgs3 snake eater, and decided to turn off the dolby digital sound II and it worked! I was amazed eh? So i'm guessing high quality sounds are the causes of the crashing?

ok, now I tried playing devil may cry 3 special edition, and it only freezes when A: I kill a demon and they turn to sand and make that wierd screaming noise, or B: when I start devil palace mode, and sometimes C: when Virgil swings his sword and makes that woosh sound.
