I would like to be able to connect my VHS Player to my PC in a similar fashion to what I do with my Camcorder, I connect my Camcorder using a firewire connection.
Is there such a lead that will connect my VHS player to my PC, ie, SCART on one end and firewire on the other ?
I would like to be able to run the vhs tape to my PC so that I can used Studio 9 to edit the footage before burning to dvd.
I am interested in the same process and my research shows that you have to add either a card or a hardware that connects via your USB port to your computer and VHS unit. Using either S video and RCA jacks depending on the hardware connections available on the unit purchased. This is the most common way to transfer VHS. The way I have done it is to connect my VHS to my camcorder which in turn is connected to the computer using firewire.
Use capture software to then download your movie, edit and burn.
I have done it and it works just great.
I use ADsTech DVD Xpress that includes all your software and hardware to transfer VHS tapes to DVD with ease. I bought this at walmart for $79.00 bucks.
I copied a few VHS tapes. I believe I did it two ways. The first using a Firewire card and the second using my ATI All-in-Wonder Video card. That was the easiest way. I also played around with some security video cards. It works but you have a limit to the quality and you must also run the sound through your soundcard. Not the best way.
Personally I found it best to record anything over 1 hour into two or three clips then combine them later with a video editng program.
encryptme, what software did you use? I just ordered the ADS Tech DVD Express 2.0 (used from Amazon) for $50.00. Seller said it is like new, we will see. So many reviews on different software that I'm overwhelmed.
As a great granny of 3, I still want to keep with technology, don't want to be left behind in the dust from this generation.
Are you sure that Nero will capture a VHS tape? I seem to recall having problems with Nero, even with SF8. But I had no problems to capture with Windows Movie Maker which funny enough worked the best in capturing My VHS tapes. I have these expensive program Sony Vegas & Nero & Others and none of these allowed me to capture my VHS tapes but with MM2 I had no problems, it captured more then 6 hours of video without going out of sync. Maybe I did not setup the other pmgs correctly, but beleive me I tried everything, and wit MM2 there was no complicated settings.
One thing to note thought, I had my VHS connected to my PC via my Camcorder, cause I had no other means to go direct, I have no card yet. I am looking ofr one that will encode to MPEG2 during capture to eliminate extra work after. Perhaps having the capture card might have enabled me to use my other pgms. Mind you I could not beleive that there was NO sync problems with MM2.
