Hey, so i have been using dvd decrypter and shrink for a couple of years now and i had never received the CRC error before with dvd shrink. So, thinking it might be the original dvd (undeclared) that caused the problem i tried another dvd (the rock). Well, they both went through the decrypter fine. Then the error popped up on both of them in Shrink. I checked for scratches on the discs but they are almost perfect. So, i'm thinking i should clean my burner. However i was thinking, could it be the hard drive that is causing the problem? I just think it is weird, cause i was burning fine up until i did a defrag of my system. It could just be a coincidence. Any info i can get would be great! I wanna get back to my "backing up" of my movies.

Decrypter is a better ripper than shrink. Since these are both older movies the crc error you rec'd in shrink is probably not due it not being able to handle the copy protection but it's sees some bad spot on the disc it doesn't like. Since you ripped them w/ decrypter just open the files in shrink and process as usual.
You can always use a lens cleaner in you burner - clean off the lens. This can help. I do it occasionally.
I don't think it's a hard drive issue or has anything to do with defragging.

Shrink isn't updated or further developed any longer, because of this it going to have problems with backing up certain disks that are copy protected by sony or microvision.

If the disk isn't scratched or smudged, then shrink is producing this error (crc) because the disk is copy protected and shrink can't handle it. Instead of using DVD Decrypter try using "DVDFab decrypter" (it's free), it's a whole movie ripper so you'll still need shrink to shrink the files for burning to a DVD+/-R disk. DVDFab is updated to keepup with the newer copy protection and is very easy to use, the latest version is 2.9.7.0, get it here:

Once it's done just use shrink to open the files with and proceed as usual.
