PSP Power Switch Problem

My son has had his PSP since launch. He has just recently been having a problem with turning the unit on. He pushes the switch up and releases it, the screen flickers for a split second, then it shuts off. He has found that if he repeats this sequence 20 or 30 times the unit will start and stay on. He has no problem with gameplay once it is on.

He has also tried it with the charger plugged in and with battery removed with the same results.

Does this sound like a bad switch or power board? Any ideas?

sounds to me to be a bad switch
(i mean its hardly a perfectly built is it. rickety as s****)

all i have to do with mine is a little flick and its on - id send this back (if you are within your 1 ear warranty) as it is a hardware problem
