I have a friend that does video editing and he burns the final video on DVD to send to the clients. He recently bought a bunch of JVC DVD-R discs and he says many of his clients are calling him back saying that they can't play the DVDs. I am not sure of the details of what they experience. He told me this and gave me the rest that was left. I ran DVD Identifier and here are the results:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MJC ME]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [MJC Pte. Ltd. Singapore ]
Manufacturer ID : [MJC ME]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are these bad discs or is he not burning his DVDs right. He says that he has only had problems with these discs, so I am guessing the discs are of poor quality. I told him that I would take them and use them for data backups if they turned out to be in the bottom of the barrel. If they are of poor quality am I risking the same effects if I use them for data discs?

Also, I have been buying Fuji DVD-R discs and have not had any problems up to this point....How do these discs compare to the rest? Thanks...

I myself have never used JVC. I stick to TY's and verbatim. If he is only getting calls from some of the clients then it is more than likely the media.
