Hi guys, this is a newb question.

I bought a Sony DVD (dru-810a) +R dual layer, double layer DVD-+ RW/-+R/CD.
I imported some footage from my handheld Sony digital video recorder of my family onto my PC and edited it real nicely using Windows Movie Maker. I captured the video in DV-AVI and the files were saved as .WMV (Although I tried converting them to .AVI format as well, no luck.)

So I install the drive & software, go through the process (using Nero burning rom SE & Nero express) and then it says the DVD +R disk isn't suitable, insert a CD-R disk. I do that, and it burns, and will play the video in my DVD player. The quality gets diminished greatly though.

So my questions:
1.) Can I burn the wmv videos onto a DVD+R disk, instead of a CD-R disk? If so, how, and will this prevent the quality from degrading?

2.) Do I even need a DVD burner to burn videos onto a CD-R? Will a regular CD burner not do this?

3.) What type of video can be burned to a DVD +R disk?

My mistake was assuming burning DVDs would be like burning CDs. Open the drive, paste the video, and burn. So sorry for the newbish questions. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Actually, you would probably get more help if you post in the right forum. There's a whole group of forums devoted to digital video and camcorders , Digital video discussion. DVD for newbies is mainly for DVD movie backups for beginners.

<<smiles>> As far as I am concerned,I think your post is in the right place here -- my post was just pointing out that double posting leads to confusion -- nothing more annoying for someone trying to help to see he has answered a post that has already been answered somewhere else in the Forum -- time lost !

People answering posts here do this on their own time , without remuneration and like to help as many people as they can spare the time for !

Your questions :-
==========

1) answer is yes ; the quality will be much better simply because you do not have to compress so much.

2) yes you can use a Cd burner to burn SVCD or VCD formats.

3) you name it <<smiles>> this is were you use different programs to handle different types.

Have a great day !

I wasn't trying to tell you what to do, just that more help might be available elsewhere on AD. Had the section I mentioned been browsed, the DVD format was acceptable in other forums (no DVD-R was listed in the first topic, not all). I'm no mod, so it's not my place to dictate to other members. Glad the problem got solved.
