You could try AnyDvd, it's a driver that runs in the backround while using Decrypter or shrink helping them crack the copy protection and produce a backup. It comes with a 21 day free trial before you have to buy it. All you have to do is install it, reboot, insert the DVD, run shrink as you normally would, anydvd will do it's thing without any user input.

Ahhh....I loved loved loved that thread. 8 pages of different ways to circumvent copy protection. My personal favorite required doing the hokey-pokey with the particular media in hand.

that whole thread should be immortalized. wasnt that kids screen name Phuck?

Current version of DVDFab Decypter will get by the Sony discs, you must uninstall any previous versions of DVDFab in order for the update to take.

True Fab has it?s place.
It also Rips in the file mode which can cause problems, like bad structure errors, if it?s not kept updated?.
DVDDecrypter can Rip in the ISO Mode, that is bit by bit, and not have any problems with missing sectors, etc. because it don?t look at them as files and the file handling routines in windows corrects it once it has been ripped to the HD...

The ISO Read Mode in Decrypter has been overlooked for a long time because all the Guides were telling you to rip in the File F Mode...

i don't think the color of the disk makes any difference but you never know the best combo of software to use (my choice) is shrink and dvd region+cssfree running in the backround, will do almost anything out there right now as far as removing copy protection or invalad dvd structure, also what is the name of the movie or disk you are trying to back up ?

That's what I was thinking? I wish people would stop making that stuff up! There is no difference in terms of what the laser does to the disc when you are ripping or just playing a dvd. Either way, all you are really doing is 'reading' the disc. How the hell would they know? I assume the people who make this stuff up are saying that your DVD drive would mark or write to the disc in some way?

just 2 points to think about which say that stuff is rubbish......

1) DVD ROM......"READ ONLY" CAN NOT WRITE or alter the disc in any way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2) OK, just say it could (which it can't), so the rental people take the disc back and see your dvd rom drive has by magic left a message on the disc. (perhaps it's like when 'the ring' comes into contact with fire then the writing appears!??!) What would they do with that disc then after it had been copied? It couldn't be rented again as how would they know the 2nd people hadn't copied it???

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm taking the P but it's just common sense that you can not look at a dvd to see if it has been copied, anything that would and could possibly change on the disc would do so in the same way if the disc was even played and not copied.

It spins at a higher speed when you rip to burn THEY WILL KNOW. Then they reset the chip for the next renter to (excuse the pun) BURN the renter.

DVDs have to spin so they can be read. I still dont see how the rental people would know who copies what. I haven't seen a red DVD yet but if the disc can be read it can be copied.

I never heard about a chip being placed in a DVD to capture DVD copiers. I need more information about this chip. I think copy protection should be enough to prevent ripping instead of placing a chip in a DVD to catch people copying DVDs. Do you have proof chips are being placed in red DVDs? How many people have been caught?

Where is this 'magic' chip located?
How do THEY reset it?
I guess whoever THEY WILL KNOW are must be sworn to secrecy - and that is why only a select few know about this.

On with the tin foil hats everyone.

I think a new Urban Legend has been born ;)

The chip is reset when they pull the little yellow locks off the disc case. That's why you can't carry them thru the electronic detectors as you leave.

Jusr re-wind your disc for 23 seconds and the "chip" automatically resets......

How about if you put the DVD in your drive upside down, wouldn't that reset the chip also?
It should then revert to the last user's info. and then they will be the ones in trouble.

You could also use lightscribe laser technology to erase the information on the chip.....

The lightscribe lasar destroys the chip. They will know! You will get a phone call. You will have to buy the disc.

The way to get past this red thing is to put play the dvd on a old 8 track player from the 70s lol....That will remove the protection. Also, you have to say serenity now 15 times while using a hoolahoop! Rofl....

@garmoon

Who told you about the yellow locks!! They weren't suppose to tell anyone else. That's why when you buy an exrental you don't get the yellow locks. They only reset them on returns!
