Ok, I'm a newbie and I have done nothing but read these threads for the last 3 days. So I'm trying to learn as much on my own, but its hard to put it all together. Even though I used to copy cd's okay, I'm brand new to dvd's and don't know didley squat. I'm starting from absolutely square 1. I see all of these threads that talk about different programs for ripping and burning. What I want to know:

1. If one was to start from scratch, exactly which ripping/burning
programs should one absolutely get or have to have? Where is the
best place for a newbie to start?

2. What tools/utilities are must haves if you run into problems?

3. For making copies of my movies, is it always best to burn it as
a "DVD Video" format as opposed to iso or avi or anything else?

Basically, where do I start? I bought a Sony 810a burner that came with some form of NERO. If I were to go out and buy another program to burn with, which ones would be the best??

I've heard all of the various names pop up, but which ones are the best?

Also, what is the best program for getting around encryption?

Thanks
