Some where on one of my programs I saw a option to select either DVD-5 or DVD-9 and I thought it was on the shrink program but I'll be dammed if I can find it now. Anybody know where I might have seen this and how do I get back to it.

Getting old.

Under Shrink>Edit>Preferences>first tab. This is the target size you want Shrink to shrink to. But it's best to select custom>4300.

I don't understand how your reply has anything to do with my question. And my target is set for 4300.

GlueEater's response has everything to do with your question. Open Shrink, click the edit menu, click preferences. A window pops up, the first tab to be displayed is the preferences tab. It is within this tab that you can choose either "DVD-9", "DVD-5", or "Custom".

Fartdude (lol...sorry) is also correct. If you open Nero Burning Rom and open a new project, as long as there is no blank media present in your burner, you can choose either DVD-9 or DVD-5 in the bottom right corner. Same as in Nero Recode 2. You can choose a target size of DVD-9, DVD-5, or custom. I'm sure there are quite a few programs that have these options however.

The option that I was talking about, and hopefully you were talking about it too, is the option in Shrink as to whether you want it compressed to fit onto a DVD5, for a single movie, or a DVD9, if you plan to put 2 movies on it or you just don't want compression.

@Skitzy

DVD5 is better but I have yet to see a whole DVD fit onto a DVD5, you have to compress and that takes away quality. But if you do find a movie that fits then a DVD5 is better. DualLayer burning is a little newer and hasn't quite been perfected yet. I've looked at a DVD5 burned a 8x and a DVD9 burned at 2x comparitivly and the 5 was better.

thanks for the reply... thats what i figured... the only movie ive had that fit was recorded from television so there was no compression plus it was a rather short film as well.. but that the only one ive had... so thats why it was so bizarre to me

@GlueEater
I have a new movie that is a DVD5, and it includes DTS audio. It's called "The Truth About Love" with Jennifer Love Hewitt and is the only movie I own that is on a single layer DVD. It's a 90 minute movie and must have been run through DVD Shrink before it was pressed to disc! lol

@Skitzy
Normally I put all of my animated movie backups on DVD9, unless they fit on a single layer DVD without compression. The compression seems to display pixelation problems moreso on cartoons and animations.

figured out why my movie was small enough to fit....{{{when recording from television you can select various recording times such as 1hr, 2hr, 4hr, 6hr, and 10hrs,}}} anyways.... of course your gonna get better quality from the lesser settings... you can really get a movie down to size if need be *good example*(lord of the rings) very very long movie if your gonna try backing it up... but i have an S cable running to my tv from my computer for dual monitor support... its an insane way of doing things... but i played the movie on my pc thru the tv and thru the stand alone dvd recorder i have for my television... and it worked really well.....
