I am having problems with Phil the Alien. I decrypted with dvd decrypter and used dvd shrink to shrink it. Well dvd shrinks analyzes and encodes the movie but nero seems to freeze up when it burns the movie to about 65%. Please someone help me out this problems. Thanks

It sounds like a media issue but the best thing to do is post your Nero log. It can be found here (version 6) c:program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.log. Post the last one and be sure to edit out your serial # - begin w/ 1a.

Most of the time it's your blank media causing this.

Post a Nero log if possible. Be sure to remove your Nero serial number.

Nero stores a copy on your PC after every burn attempt.

If you have Nero 6, try looking here:
C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

Nero 7:
C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory.log

Each log is separated by one of these. Also, your Nero Serial number is just below this seperator.

====== *** Nero Burning ROM, History File *** ======

You can also just look at the date on the log and figure out where one ends and the next starts.

The burn log has lots of good info on it that we can use to figure out the problem.

Why are you using Decrypter first? Shrink can remove the encryption as well. You may save yourself a step.

This is poor media and the likely cause of the problem:

Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1

Try Ritek, Taiyo Yuden(my favorite) or Verbatim brands. You will be happy at how well it works.

Your Nero should be brought up to date. Yours is several versions behind. Get update package 1 and 2 only. You can get the update here:

http://nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

Your burner's firmware is one version behind. The new version is JWS6 I'd worry about the media first though. You can download firmware here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2082

You should set your burn speed to 4X as well.

You may want to get a DVD-ROM to replace the CD-ROM. This just makes the whole process easier.

as both binkie and fasfrank alluded to earlier, the media you are using is simply stated, crap..sorry...
Quote:
Recorder: Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1
CMC MAG made media under a lot of different "brands" is very poor quality media...

try some Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims and i'm willing to bet you will no longer have this problem during the burn...

also,

Recorder: <Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2>Version: JWS5 - HA 2 TA 0 - 6.3.1.4
your nero is somewhat outta date...ok, it's really outta date..the newest version is 6.6.1.4 found here:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

finally, if at all possible, i would suggest closing down some other background applications to free up a bit more memory...

Thanks ya'll for your help. I have always used maxell DVD-R all the time but I decided that I would try Imation but that was a bad idea. I'm updating my software on my pc right now. Thanks a whole bunch. Saved me a lot of headaches trying to figure this one out. I have tried Memorex, Sony now Imation and don't like none of them. I have tried Office Depot's DVD-R and didn't waste but maybe one or two. I had bought the 100 pk. I'll stick with Maxell from now on. Thanks once again. (Flowers to you all.)

if possible, try and find the MIJ Maxells' (made in japan) those are made by Hitachi and i have personally found them to be very good media~ :)

nothing wrong with the Riteks (Maxell's MIT-made in taiwan), but for the same price, the Hitachi made Maxells are a notch better, in my opinion of course, good quality media...

Contact Nero support with your serial number and see if they will give you another.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/support.php

This is apparently a problem caused by invalid or flagged serial numbers which for some reason affects the way Nero uses your vurtual memory.

Do a search here for "TRF" and you can see the threads that talk about this.

I noticed you said you upgraded your software, yet your Nero is still out of date.
