Ok, the scans I am providing here are all TY 8x media. I did a pretty extensive experiment and got these scans. These burns are burned at different speed as stated and on 2 different burners, the Pioneer DVR-109 and Benq 1640.

Firmware for Pioneer is the latest at 1.58 and Benq at BSNB. The purpose of this experiment is for me to know which burner is better for TY media and at what speed. But as you can see, the results are quite interesting.

Burning at 8x results in lower PIE but higher PIF and burning at 4x gives higher PIR and lower PIF. So chich is the one we should really look out for, PIE or PIF?

Also, in CDRINFO.com, their reviews provide scan result of various medias and there is PIE, POE and POF. I thought PIE and POE are the same? And why don't they have PIF? Someone please clarify my query.

To the BENQ 1640 scans:

BENQ 1640 - Burned @ 4x

BENQ 1640 - Burned @ 8x

Now to PIONEER DVR-109 scans:

PIONEER - Burned @ 4x

PIONEER - Burned @ 8x

So what do you guys think. Which burner @ what speed is the best here?

will have to agree 100% there~

btw, i have both those drives you are using, i burn ALL my 8x TYs @8x, on BOTH burners...the only thing diff. is i use the buffalo firmware to enable bitsetting on my Pioneer dvr-109 and Q-Suite on my Benq 1640~ :)

your 4x burns on either burner is good too, but you can see for yourself, your 8x burns are even "better" ; however marginal the difference may be, they are STILL "better" :)

@ docTY~

I agree that the PIE values of 8x burns are way better than the 4x burns. But the PIF seems to be higher.

I remember reading somewhere that PIF is the one we should watch out for, isn't it?

So the question is, should we look at PIE or PIF?

must have missed this thread, my bad~ :)

i'm no expert in any way when it comes to scans and such, but what i look for is the PIF...the lower the better...what SOME would consider "acceptable", others do not...

but, keeping the PIF under 6 IN MY OPINION is still considered pretty darn good~ :) for ME personally, anything less than 10 for PIF is "acceptable", but i rarely get anything over 6 using high quality media~ and i also burn @8x on practically ALL my media, regardless of who makes it (noted: i only use Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim MCC's as my preference of media)

we all have diff. "standards" that we go by in terms of what is "acceptable" or not when running these scans, YOUR scans look "good" to me, but for someone more "picky", they might conclude that ur scans aren't very good~ :) i would stick to burning TYs @8x as you have...if your past backups are any indication of your future burns, you got nothing to worry about~
