I have been backing up movies for awhile now. I have never used Any DVD or DVD 43. I have been reading some posts on this website, and I always see that people say they are running these tools in the background as a solution. Or with DVD Shrink. Some people refer to them as cracking engines... And I have also seen people saying that these programs running in background can cause issues. First, what is the purpose of these programs and what do they do that is so special? What do ppl mean when they say they have to run them in the background (like use DVD Decrypter, the Shrink, Then Nero to brun)?? And what issues can these tools "running in the background" cause?

Just throught I would throw it out thee....

Well, if you open Decrypter, Shrink, or most other DVD programs you see a GUI that lets you click things, view information, and move things around.

With AnyDVD you generally don't. In normal usage you only see a small icon in your system tray.

This program removes the encryption before any other program will see it.

When you open Shrink with AnyDVD installed. The DVD will appear unencrypted to Shrink. The same with Decrypter.

In most cases you must continue to use your ripping programs. AnyDVD does not replace them.

If you use a program like Nero Recode 2 then you don't have to rip with Decrypter. Because Recode will see the DVD as unencrypted, it will be able to process the DVD. Otherwise it could not. You would get an "Encrypted DVD" error.

You can see that that would save a step if you used a program like Recode. No need for Decrypter or other ripper.

AnyDVD is kept up to date so it can handle the newer protection schemes that Shrink and Decrypter cannot.

DVD43 is similar in operation.

Sometimes DVD43 and AnyDVD will conflict with each other. They are very similar so there is no reason to have both installed.

How do you tell if DVD 43 is running in backgrpund or is installed on your PC? Does it come bundled up with any other DVD software, maybe like Power DVD?

I typically use DVD Shrink 3.2 as a one stop shop for ripping, decrypting, and encoding of movies. Then I use ImageBurn for burning. Alot of the newer films some users are having trouble backing up I have no issues at all simply using DVD Shrink 3.2. For example Lord Of War, Wedding Crashers, Brothers Grimm, Red Eye... Could this be because I have DVD 43 or somthing like it in the background.. How could I tell.

DVD43 does not come with other programs as far as I know. You could look in your Add or Remove Programs list and see if it's there or in your Program Files. You could go to your Task Manager and see if it is running.

Region 1 DVDs seem to have less problems, especially if you are doing "movie only" backups.

Yes, all the DVDs are from Region 1. But I am not only backing up the movie but all the menus as well. Who knows... Some you win, some you loose.

Some people also have been discussing how bad/fake cells in movies can cause problems for reading/ripping. Even with some of the movies I have been able to successfully rip and encode using DVD Shrink 3.2 that others have not been able to until they remove bad cell that they say they find...The some users make manuals and documentation on what they did and exactly what cells they had to get rid of. Now lets says that I am able decrypt, rip, and encode a back up image of a movie using DVD Shrink and ....some there are some fake cells people have found in the movie I was able to successfully back up...Do the fake cell transfer to the final image? Will this cause any issues with when you go to play your burnt DVD-R. Or is it pretty safe to say that if DVD Shrink is able to rip, decrypt and encode an image of the movie successfully without giving any errors...then it should be just fine... Has anyone ever had any issues with movies they have burned playing, where the problem lies in the image that was rendered then later on burned?

I always use Shrink as a gauge of DVD-Video compliancy. In my experence, if there is a problem with the movie structure then Shrink will fail. Actually I think the folks who made the new protections count on that.

Like I said on my other post that I replied to you, if you're using the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter to rip, then there's NO NEED for AnyDVD or DVD43 to run. With that being said, if you have the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter (2.9.7.0), then it should be fine -- it is obvious that DVDFAB Decrypter is a wonderful ripper already. So, there's no need for AnyDVD or DVD43, and the good thing is that DVDFAB Decrypter is FREE. I have my faith in Fengtao or DVDFAB Decrypter - Fengtao is the main author behind DVDIdle Pro, DVDFAB Decrypter, DVD Region + CSS Free and possible DVD43 as well.

As a matter of fact, you can't have AnyDVD or DVD43 (or more than 2 cracking engines) running at the same time as well, it will only conflict one another, therefore you're likely to see some issue while ripping or afterward.

Again, like I said on my other post, if you decided to "process" the VIDEO_TS.IF file through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0, then MAKE SURE you don't have AnyDVD or DVD43 running in the background. This will only cause VobBlanker to give you errors such as getting smaller files (GB), or unsynchronized VOB, missing parts of the movies, etc.

If you need decided to run AnyDVD, then make sure you have it set in combo with DVD Decrypter while ripping only. This method seems to work the best. You can probably get by running AnyDVD in the background while transcoding with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2, but some members are experiencing some issues (maybe 5%) for that process. So it's wise to rip the movie with DVD Decrypter in combo with the latest updates from AnyDVD and you'll be fine.

However, if you're like me and like FREE programs, then I highly recommend DVDFAB Decrypter (one of the greatest ripper at the moment) and VobBlanker (one of the most powerful FREE tool to "process" and "blank" out left over craps, junks, fake cells, fake dummy pgcs or sectors, etc.) In the end, the choice is yours.

Good luck and happy burning!!

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

EDITED for correction: IF should be IFO instead.

Again, like I said on my other post, if you decided to "process" the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0, then MAKE SURE you don't have AnyDVD or DVD43 running in the background. This will only cause VobBlanker to give you errors such as getting smaller files (GB), or unsynchronized VOB, missing parts of the movies, etc.
