Right then, I know this error message has been covered before and that it is sign that the dvd was protected by the 'bad structure' system but my question isn't really about that.
I have my movie (the longest yard) in file mode on my hard drive ripped with decrypter. The latest version of Anydvd wsa actualy running.
I didn't try to burn the disc at the time but now i have damaged the original and so want to burn a backup.
As shrink will not oprn the files, is there another program which would? Maybe something like an iso making program that will fix the structure protection using some help from anydvd as it's converting?
Basically, I have a ripp on my hard drive and can not ripp the movie again as no longer have the disc and i want to know if I can recover anything from these files whcih seem to have structure protection?

There are two things you can try:
First you can try and see if shrink will open an ISO image file (I've had this work when shrink wouldn't open files in a VIDEO_TS folder), you state you've already ripped the files to your HDD, so you need to convert the files into an ISO image. Get folder2ISO, this handy little app will do the conversion for you, you can find it here at AD, here's a link with a guide:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/folder...
Once the conversion is complete, run shrink and choose file-->open disk image, browse to where the image is located, highlight it and click ok/open. If shrink opens the image file I suggest you reauthor the movie to remove all extras, have shrink create an ISO image file you can burn with DVD Decrypter.
The other option is to process the files already on your HDD with vobBlankerto remove any bad cells that are causing a problem with DVDshrink.
Get vobBlanker here: http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm
Create a folder on your desktop and call it "the_longest_yard"
Run vobBlanker, for input folder just browse to inside the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVD Decrypter and highlight the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, click ok. For output folder/location browse to "the_longest_yard" folder you created on the desktop and choose it. Now just press the PROCESS button and wait about 10 min. Once done, rename the "the_longest_yard" folder on your desktop to VIDEO_TS. Open the files created by vobblanker with DVDshrink, reauthor the movie to remove all extras, have shrink create an ISO image file you can burn with DVD Decrypter.

Two things to try:
Download CloneDVD - it should handle this. Can try free for 21 days.
Or
Download vobblanker(free) and process the files thru that then open the processed files in shrink and proceed as normal.

Did the thing as per instructions with VOB blanker and it did appear to work. The log said that some files were removed and then shrink opened it up no problem. Took out the extras which resulted in a nice 90% compression and burned to disc.
The disc plays, kinda but there is a black screen which says there for ever until you skip a chapter which takes you straight to chapter 2, then from tehre on it's a bit hit and miss with freezing and skipping.
It's a step in the right direction though, I'll try the folder2iso thing next.

If you are just doing the movie then take your file and use start and end frame in Shrink and just advance the start a little til you get beyond the blank spot. This gets rid of the pause. Then just process as usual. I have an older player that will stick on this spot and won't play the first chapter. This stops the problem.

The skipping and freezing prob could be your media also. Which brand as your using? Burn Speed? Make sure you are using quality stuff like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

the media is ok,,,,i think!
Ritek 8x full face printable (if you're interested) DVD+R.
DVD+R !?!? I know, I know, ordered them by mistake but my dvd player will play anything + - whatever,,,as will the xbox as it has the samsung drive.
I'll try some other media but what I want to know is this...
The files that VOB blanker output will load up perfectly in shrink and in the preview window I can play the full movie, no glitches at all. Is there a rule that says this means the ripp is ok? Or can you still get a movie that will play like this but still not burn onto disc?

I know you said you are getting "invalid navigation structure!" messages and you have the latest version. I would double check and see what version you are running. I had the same message with ver. 5.4. After I upgraded to 5.8.3.1 , the message went away and I could copy The Fog.

The current version of anydvd is 5.8.4.1, upgrade if your version is older.
When burning the backup, don't burn any faster than 4X, I consider Ritekto be lousy media so you don't want to burn too fast when using it.
If your still having playback problems try booktyping since you're using DVD+R media, but make sure your burner supports it. Here is some info on it:
