Hello All,

Is it normal for the quality of a burned disc to get worse towards the end of the disc? I'm using Sony DVD+R (DVD identifier lists the manufacturer as Sony Recording Media Co the manufacturer ID as SONY and the Media Type ID as D21). I use DVD Shrink to rip and Nero or ImgBurn to burn. I don't even come close to burning towards the end of the disc. For a while I was using 4300 MB of the disc but recently I've changed to as little as 3750. I burn at 4x on 16x discs.

When running Nero CD-DVD speed the PI errors and failures don't get too bad when using only 3750 MB of the disc. I usually get a quality score of 90-93.

Does anyone know if the "poor" quality is media related, burner related or is it a problem caused by the ripping or burning software?

If you are reducing your target size to 3750, I would think your problem is not with anything you mentioned, but compression. Use the Deep Analysis and AEC controls in DVD Shrink to correct the problems.

I only decreased the size to 3750 because of the poor quality I was getting towards the end of the disc when using 4300 MB of the disc. When I use 3750MB of the disc, I always reauthor and only copy the main movie and the compression isnt that much. When I usually try to do a deep analysis, it says it's not needed?

Do you know what causes the media to get worse towards the last third of the disc?

It seemed like I was getting much better results when uses DVD Decrypter to rip, Shrink to compress it and Nero to burn. But I'm unable to use DVD Decrypter any more.

The dye at the edges of discs is more unreliable around the edges. Here is DVD Decrypter if you need it.
