I have a recently purchased inspiron 630 laptop and a memorex 16X external dvd burner. I am having major problems getting my setup to burn. I use DVD decrypter to save files to hard the hard drive and then use DVD Shrink (and Nero) to burn to blank DVD. Everything works fine until the actual burn process. It stays at 1% for a very long time and then gives the error message below. I cannot figure out what the problem is. This problem is confusing due to the fact that I used the exact same setup with my Toshiba laptop and everything worked fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any additional info!
The error message is as follows:

burn failed at 16x (22,160kb/s)

Please remove your serial #, it begins with 1a20.

Do not burn at more than 4X.
Make sure that your firmware is current.
Use quality media from Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell(made in Japan)...Memorex, Imation, Kyphermedia=crap.

The entire Nero log could prove useful.

The log shows:
"nero api version 6.3.1.4"

The version of nero you have installed is way too old, the current version is 6.6.1.4, click on the link provided, download and install packages 1 and 2 (without the yahoo tool bar). This should take care of the problem, but as LOCOENG stated above "Do not burn at more than 4X".

johnnymoe,
Agree w/ LOCOENG. 16X is way to fast. Like he said the whole Nero log would be nice to see.

Your usb port could be bad, the cable could be bad or the burner could be bad. You might also need to check the Bios and make sure enhanced usb is enabled. Not sure though the Inspirion has that option though( it usually is up to the manuf)
