I am having a problem playing back audio and video in both my drives on my compter. I can write to a disc no problems, I can install software from either also... but when it comes to playing an audio cd or dvd (in either drive) it plays back all "skippy" and jumpy - the sound and picture. Does anybody have any clue as to what the problem could be? Or what I should check to fix this?

Thanks so much.

Those problems can be caused by an assortment of things. First of all, what software are you using for playback? Make sure the media surface is clean and shiny and that the optical head of the drive is clean. Next the firmware for the drive should be up to date. Then we can start asking questions like, are those CDs and DVDs recorded or factory? Do the same CDs and DVDs play good in other equipment? We haven't even gotten to faulty hardware, such as the drive itself or audio and video components of the system.

It does not matter what media I put in the drive(factory cd's, burned cd's, during playback the audio and the video is skippy. Does not matter what software I use to play the media with either, iTunes, Windows Media player, Nero... does not matter - it always skips. I have two drives a Samsung cd/dvd+/-, and a Sony dual layer dvdRw+and- which is relatively new. They were working fine for about a year, and then I noticed one day ... this annoying problem.

I figured it could not be the drives, both at once..... very strange. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks

Hate to say it, but since it doesnt seem to be software related, and it would be strange for both drives to head south at the same time, it looks like it could be system related. Have someone you know with good computer skills take a look at it or have a professional take a look.

I'm out of ideas, maybe someone else has some.
