Are you recording to the HDD and it fails to copy to a DVD disk Or are you recording to a disk and it fails
[Just to be sure]

I have two RHD04 and do not have any problems copying from the HDD to a disk. (Just to indicate there should be no broblem)
Can you record direct to a disk?
+R disks are record once only.
+RW can be erased and used again

If the disk is +RW record something on the disk (5 min}.
Erase THE DISK using the Tools Menu, this will also format the disk.
The disk that came with the machine is a +RW and it should format

If It will not there is something wrong with the disk or the burner.
Give the machine time. A bar on the screen should indicate the proggress.

If the disk is +R use a Brand New disk that has not been used before

Tine of the recording is a factor

ie. If you have a program on the HDD that is (2 hr 30 min) long and you have the unit set in setup for SP (2 hr) you will get a message indicating that there is not enough space on the Disk. You will have to set the recording length to EP (3 hr)

The manual is not the best on some of this. If the disks are OK

DO NOT insert the disk
Press the OSM button
Select ----- Copy
Select ----- HDD to DVD
Message ---- Open Tray
Insert Disk and close tray
Message - Reading Disk (can take a good 30 sec) don't press buttons
Message - Video, Music, Pictures
Select -- Video
Items on the HDD should display
select and the unit should copy

If the unit takes longer than 45 sec at (Reading Disk) there is most likely a problem with the DVD unit (this is for the +R disk if you used a +RW disk that is a different one.

It sounded like the system had been used but I wasn't sure.
You can ignore the copy advice. prepare the disks as I indicated and than follow the procedure I outlined, it should prety much tell you if a problen exists in the DVD drive or the system.
you might want to check this site and thread.
