You won't get help here, talking about copying rental movies. That is piracy, and illegal.............

Rented movies don't belong to you, those you buy do. Copying what is not yours is piracy and not condoned by AD.

I'm sure others have, or do copy rented DVD's. but it is not tolerated here...it's a moral sin I suppose, but in all DVD's are well DVD's none the less...you would have the same problems (copy protection) with rented, as you do owned copies of the movie...

Except-Rented Movies nowadays, some can scan and tell if you've burned thier "Rental". Beware do not rent and burn. They will burn you!

Now thats funny ^.
Rentals are the same as the DVDs you buy in store. You should definitely purchase the movies THEN backup.

Absolutely. Blockbuster and netflix implemented that technology at the start of the 2005 fourth quarter. There is a press release about it somewhere, but otherwise it isnt widely known. If your account is found to have burned movies after they've mailed them to you, they will flag it. Your information will then be sent to the MPAA who will then forward it to the feds.
Be careful all you renters out there.

If that is true you should also provide people who do engage in Piracy with proof as to help stop Piracy. By Providing people with proof of what you say is true you could save them from Jail and hopefully scare them enough to stop doing Piracy. I myself do not engage in Piracy but feel people have a right to be warned who do Engage in Piracy. Another thing I would like to add is If there were such a system as you say it would probably not be long before there is some kind of software program that would erase such evidence from the Pirated DVD. Last thing I would like to add to this post is if such a system as this does exist I believe the Jail system would be over run because I believe there is a lot of people out there that do Pirate Rented DVD Movies and on every DVD is the FBI Piracy warning that States that if Cought Pirating Movies you could face a Fine and jail time,Now that said Such a system would either put a lot of people in Prison or Drive them to suicide by giving them a fine of so much money adding a great deal of stress and Worry.
