default settings are usually the best

check to make sure dma is enabled on your drives

check for memory resident programs hogging your ram new pcs that have been preloaded often have a lot of garbage running in the background

and remember bigger doesnt allways mean faster the speed of your computer is governed by many things how well your cpu functions on your motherboard how fast your drives are etc my P3 800 blitzs my 1.6 celeron by about 15% on benchmark

If it's checked, then uncheck it
This setting allows you to better multitask while shrink is doing it's thing, just leave it unchecked and don't perform any other tasks on the pc while shrink is ripping/transcoding.

The only thing that couldn't be correct is the 20-30% CPU usage while ripping, shrink is very cpu intensive and usually uses greater that 90% of the CPU time. Did you try uninstalling shrink, then reinstalling it to see if that made any difference?

It's possible that somethings up with the drive/s in that new rig.
Can you post the model#'s of your DVD-ROM drive and that of your DVD burner.

Which drive are you using to perform the analysis/ripping with?

@kb5523,
I did some checking, a sony 720u is an external drive and the 720a is an internal drive, is yours an external?

Reguardless, I got this from the Sony site and may resolve the issue:
*********************************************************************
The default read/write speed of this drive is 40x speed. With a single touch, you can activate the Turbo Boost function, to raise the read/write speed to 48x speed.

We recommend that you do not use deeply scratched, brittle, or other discs that may break at 48x speed.

The Turbo Boost function does not guarantee a 48x write speed. Depending on the condition of the disc you are using, the speed may be automatically lowered.

The Turbo Boost function does not increase read/write speed with CD-RW discs.

Activating the Turbo Boost function :

1 Insert a disc into the drive.
The read/write speed when you insert a disc is normally 40x speed.

2 Press and hold the Eject button for five seconds.
The Busy indicator blinks twice and the read/write speed switches to 48x speed. (The Turbo Boost function is active.)

When you open the disc tray, the read/write speed reverts to its default of 40x speed.
*********************************************************************

Operating the drive in turbo mode should increase shrink or decrypter's ripping performance, I also recommend updating the drive's firmware if needed.

here's a link to sony's site to get what you need.

I believe that decrypter woks best when using it's default settings, if you're getting errors, it more than likely due to copy protection. Instead of using DVDdecrypter try using DVDFab decrypter (it's also free), it's a whole movie ripper and is updated to handle the newer copy protection. You'll still need dvdshrink to shrink the move to fit on a single layer disk and reauthor if needed.

get dvdfab decrypter here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
