That's right! I'm Ron Holley, and I do not use screen names because it does not matter what I call myself before you all! Did you want to let off some steam! Are you saying that you have never pirated a dvd for whatever reason? I know human nature, and it will try to get over whenver it can, so please spare my the poor hurt man routine, I did not hurt your feelings. I abided by the rules and gave my opinion that I believe to be fact! Now you can deal with it or not, but We were in the zone with our responses and you people got angry because it did convicted you!
Again:
1. We did not tell anyone to go to blockbuster or their local video store, rent movies!
2. We did not tell them to make copies using this or thst software.
3. We did not tell the to sell!
What did we do?:
We stated that everyone, and I mean everyone, has, had, did, does and will make copies of movies that have not purchased.
What did you people do?:
Get angry because we told the truth!
Again Let's Move Along with the truth of the matter! It's in the open now and ther's nothing you can do about it but take is as gospel or not. Free country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad that you can see through your computer into my home and soul and just know that this is the truth, however it is not. The only backups I do are of what I own. I have been collecting movies/music for a long time. Many of my originals have been bought from various sources and I do not want to replace them. I have eight grandchildren who are not always kind to DVD's. I travel, have a boat and spend the summer in a cottage. Not places that are conducive to bringing my originals. Saltwater air is not kind on media. I have had originals lost, borrowed and not returned, broken and even the dog has done in a few. It is easy to replace a backup but not an original. Making a blanket statement that 100% of people do it is prejudicial, especially if you do not know the people you are speaking about. Research of any hypothesis is done over a period of time, if you want to make your statement then go out and do some real research and prove it, otherwise leave it alone.

What I stated still stands! You can choose to accept it or not! But I am curious to know how many DVD you have, and if you still have the retail cases for them, and where you are storing them???? Oh by the way "Science" is an organized knowledge GAINED by observation and experimentation, which I have done on this forum. My Science is on point!

We are not talking science but only generalized statements, you need to prove this statement by conducting research over many forums your statement is only about one and in order for it to be truly scientific your research must be able to be replicated. But since people come and go this will skew the data, which you do not have any concrete evidence of, just guesswork. You have no contact with your subjects so you cannot know what you are dealing with and AD is hardly a controlled environment.

Well if you want to think that, that's ok, thus the overwhelming response to the intial post anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I'll play along. Let's start with you since you've made the comment that you have not made any copies of unpurchased DVD and CD's. My Question is:
How many DVD's you have? Do you still have the retail cases for them? And where you are storing them???? Thanks!

At last count 836, yes they are in the cases, and I store them in a bookcase. DVD's are not that large, unlike VHS tapes which took up a lot of space.

It is a builtin bookcase floor to ceiling. Just as an aside, I live in an old house with 9ft ceilings and the room was once a library complete with sliding ladder.

For some reason I think luckepene and holleyron is the same person. For god sake, if you two are truly scholars, then why waste your knowledge on such thread like this? Furthermore, what are your points of doing this? It is evident that you two have a grudge against creaky for a useless (unknown) reason ? it?s sad but true. Isn?t it ironic to see such scholars hating on a Mod simply because he closed a thread? Quit acting like a crying baby looking for more milk and take a chill pill. What part of a Mod has a job to do and that?s to close/prevent any thread(s) in prior to the so called ?out-of-control? and or circumstances don?t you comprehend?
It is true that you both DID NOT specified any direct links to pirate any kinds of software, but talking about renting movies, then backing up and selling them is uncalled. And of course, we all know that half the members here do that to his or her own privilege and risk, but do you see creaky, Doc. aka kivory666, and I or others specifically talked about it (i.e. rent to burn)? No.
First, I thought this thread is an exception from the beginning, but now it turns into another useless thread afterall. I wouldn?t be surprised if someone (another Mod) put this thread to rest for good.

The easiest way to end this matter once and for all, is to ask luckEpenE's and holleyron's parents to take away the keyboards from their PCs for a while.
Maybe also enforce an age limit so school kids can't take part in this sort of discussion.
Can I also suggest another thread be opened titled 'who have you wound up recently, and just how easy was it?'
We could then see how many names that appear on that thread, are also on this one.

I was really going to leave this alone, I told myself when I get back from work just be done with it all. But some of the replies in this thread are just ridiculous.
Holleyron and I have gone from trolls, to one person, to evil people who shouldnt throw stones, to kids in school, to who knows whats next.
The reality of the matter is we chose to speak on something that you deem inappropriate but oddly enough the rules of the forum dont deem inappropriate. I havent belittled ANYONE in this thread yet just about each of your replies to me have contained insults. Do I think that is something that should be addressed by the admin? Of course. Therefore it is legitmate, just as you feel holleyron and I are in the wrong you are entitled to feel so. I feeled wronged by the moderator and am entitled to express so.

My intention is not to take sides here. The fact of the matter is with all the litigation concerning piracy and circumventing copy protections, the previous thread was venturing into a gray area. holleyron and luckEpenE, you are right; there are numerous individuals who have dabbled into many "not so legal" offerings of the information superhighway, ie, cracks, learning how to dub rentals, etc. However, it is unfair to imply that ALL have done it.
The Mods, Addicts, and other members are passionate about maintaining the integrity of this site. AfterDawn is not beyond the law, you know. For many of us, our membership extends far beyond a post count or flaunting our knowledge. We are here to teach and learn...
This forum has a wealth of information contributed by long time members and "newbies" alike. I/we don't want to see it go away... What may seem innocent to one may seem to be bordering on illegal to others. The law itself has many gray areas and can be intepreted in a multitude of ways.
