nec burners require HACKED/MODIFIED firmware in order to booktype properly, they WILL NOT be able to bitset using official NEC firmware~ here is where to go...take ur pick, i prefer the Liggy & Dees modified firmware myself~ :)

http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/

the firmware for YOUR particular drive is the 4th one down on the left hand side~ under "NEC-2500/2510"

i would suggest the "2xx0v3-2.rar"

NEC ND-25x0A 2.18 v3 Final Test 2, supports +R(W) and +R DL bitsetting and DL burning for both 2500 & 2510!

good luck~

uhm...if you ONLY want to bitset (booktype ur DVD+R to dvd-rom) then go with the one i suggested for your specific burner:
Quote:

just quoting myself :) if you want a direct link to the one i suggest, here ya go:

http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/25x0/2xx0v3-2.rar

also, before flashing w/ modified firmware, make sure you read up on HOW to perform it correctly and also note that you WILL void your warranty upon cross-flashing...be careful~ look in the "NEC Firmware Utilities" section for the programs necessary for such an update~

have a read here PRIOR to flashing:

Thanks for your help but after reading about needing extra utilities, i don't know which one i need. so i will leave well enough alone, before i ruin it. I did update frimware from 2.15 to 2.18 from nec with no problem, but did not have to have extra utilitie to do it.
Thanks any way

no problem, just trying to help you out a bit...but at the same time, letting you know of the POSSIBILITIES of an incorrect flashing...and what it could do...at least you have the information ready in case you decide to flash at a later time, knowing is 1/2 the battle..."better safe than sorry" would be a pretty fair statement in this case...

as long as your NEC is still burning away with no other "issues"...then why fix something that ain't broke? adding bitsetting capabilities is an added "plus" (no pun intended), but one can live without it if you don't have any compatibility issues at this point in time with your standalone dvd players~

Wow! Now that is how it should be done. A shining example of a Q & A session on the afterdawn forum. Poster asks a question, receives great advice on how to proceed, and is warned of potential pitfalls in doing so. Poster then takes the advice and decides on how to proceed and thanks responder for the help. Very simple exchange but it struck me as being...very cool. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

olamite,

You can go into plextools and set booktype DVD+R to dvd-rom and it will do so regardless of what burn utility you use.

Yes, both Nero Express and Nero Burning Rom burn any ISO Image easily. I've been using Nero Burning Rom to burn all of my PS2 ISO(s) and it worked flawlessly.

Have AOpen burners here (DUW1608 and DUW1616), not sure how to perform change the booktype.

I do use Nero 6.6. Should I be choosing the "DVD-ROM(ISO)" setting when burning DL DVDs? I've always changed that setting to DVD-Video...wasn't sure what any of the other options meant.

Thanks

Both those drives are capable of bitsetting. Select booktype dvd-rom in Nero. Note: you can only booktype DVD+R (not dvd-r) media to dvd-rom. You can verify they are booktyped dvd-rom after burning with dvd identifier http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Thanks, I did it on one of my desktops - with the AOpen DUW-1608. The Nero version on this machine is 6.6.0.6.

When I went to my other desktop with the newer drive - AOpen DUW-1616, when I go to Nero - Choose Recorder, and click Options - I don't receive the drop-down to select DVD-ROM. Instead thre is a box labeled Super Link enabled checked. The version of Nero on this machine is 6.6.0.18.

I don't know if the version of Nero being different is not allowing me to see the Booktype setting drop-down box or not. I may try uninstalling it on that machine, and reinstalling the 6.6.0.6 and see if it changes.

I've gone to the AOpen website to see if there is an updated Firmware to the 1616 drive, and none are available yet. The drive only has the firmware that came with it originally (manufacture date 12/05).

I downloaded/installed the Identifier and used it on some blank discs, it was good to know that my regular DVD+R 8x Generic Brand (Fry's) are really manufactured by Sony. They work great in both drives - though in the older drive - 1608, they burn at 12x. In the newer drive they only burn at 8x. Hopefully when AOpen provides a Firmware update that will boost the burn speed up on the newer drive also.

Thanks

surf,

the latest vs of Nero 6 is 6.6.1.4 You can upgrade to this vs by opening Nero then click on Nero in the upper left hand corner. Click programs then click on check now (you have to have internet connection). There should then be some green circles next to the proggys that can be updated. Click on the green circle. Note: do not install the update with incd.

Another way to set booktype dvd-rom in Nero is open Nero then click on Nero tool kit. Click on Nero cd-dvd speed. Click on extra then click on bitsetting. Under new setting select dvd-rom then set.

Thanks, will try the toolkit method. I had updated to the 6.6.1.4 about two weeks ago...and started getting errors with every burn using DVDShrink. I rolled both computers back, but must have re-installed two different roll-backs on my two desktops.

Thanks for the help. About ready to try another test DL burn and see if my stand-alones read them.
