I am using Shrink and love the program. I recently notice that I copied 40 yrl.old virgin. I have everything set up for defaults. But the video portion is not quite oup to par as the original. If I choose 'no compression', I need a dual layered disc. Has anyone run into this problem before?? I am not sure if my DVD player will play a DL disc or not. If I record with 'no compression', will the quality be the same as the original?
Don't get me wrong, the backup is not too bad at all, but it just doesn't appear quite as sharp.
Thanks in advance for any input.............

Movies that are compressed too much will do that. The lower the number on the compression slide bar gets, the worse it gets. If you want to start using DL discs you can, but don't use the no compression tab. If use dual layer, Go to toolbar at top, click
Edit>Preferences> now set target size to DVD-9(DL). If you use a regular (DVD-5) disc set target size to custom, then type in 4400 in the blank (it will keep you from burning at the very outer edges where I find most failures).
Many people re-author the movie using only the main movie, myself included, editing out the extra menus and scenes. After you load your original DVD, hit the re-author button and drag the main movie to the left and see how much space you just saved on the disc!
Also after you load a movie then hit backup, click quality settings.
Click on both deep analysis and compress with quality error compensation. Choose maximum smoothness (some people like max sharpness better, you can figure out what you like best through trial and error.
Sorry for rambling, but I hoped I answered most your questions.

dosjos,
Deadrum gave you a pretty good explanation, I just would like to add a few things to it.
Here in the forums you will find a wealth of info regarding your question. A little reading will help you tremendously.
Anyway, when compression is performed you will lose some quality no matter what. Now some software also does a better job at it then others. As far as shrink is concerned, it does a pretty good job but if you use Nero then I would suggest to try Recode, IMO quality seems to be better at the same amount of compression, and it also takes less time.

No problem, keep us posted. Heres a link to a good page that explains many of the processes involved with this business.
