i bought a pack of sony dvd-r disc and when i scaned them to check the quality this is what came up "Taiyo Yuden co." is this normal? or am i just a noob and this is old news?

Yes this is normal, many brands of Media are made by companies other than the label brand, Your Sony disks are made in Japan by one of the better media makers (Taiyo Yuden). Sony disks made in Taiwan are from another company. You will find that some brands have several different manufacturers and buying 4 spindles of the same type, same speed will yield 4 different manufacturers. Can't get much more confusing than that, can you?
