I've enjoyed this forum for quite some time by way of google searches for help on past dvds and I'm hoping someone can help me out now, as a member. I was able to back up disc 1 of Waiting... with dvd decrypter(3.4.5.0.) no problem, now it is taking me almost three discs to re-author disc 2. I've run it thru dvd shrink (3.2.0.15)(error), clonedvd2 won't even start and I do have the most recent update for anydvd running in the background. Any ideas how to back up to one disc?

Try ripping the DVD files to your HDD using DVDFab decrypter (it's free), it's a whole movie ripper and constantly updated to keep up with the current copy protection techniques. Because it rips the whole movie to your HDD you'll need shrink to open the files with, reauthor the movie if needed, ans shrink it to fit on a single layer disk (basically once DVDFab is done, open the files using shrink and proceed as usual).

You can get it here:
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

here's a guide on use if needed:
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php

I suggest using shrink to create an ISO image that you can burn to disk using DVD decrypter.

So Johnl123, the correct order would be to decrypt with DVDFab, shrink with DVDShrink, and burn with DVDDecrypter? Thank you for the suggestion.

Sorry to have taken so long, but yes that's the way I would do it.

Just remember that DVD decrypter is able to burn ISO images to disk, so have shrink create an ISO image file and have it auto burn with dvd decrypter (you must have dvd decrypter installed on your system to be able to use this option when backing up in shrink).

The backup for the bonus disk of Waiting is giving me fits. I backed up the first disc with no problem.

When I try to backup the bonus disc. I get this message:
There doesn't appear to be enough space on disc to burn image.
Image Size: 2,299,421 sectors
Disc size: 2,298,496 sectors.

I tried dvdfab, VOB blanker and even DVD Decrypter alone to read and then burn but to no avail. Its not that big of a deal but what am I doing wrong....

@nycdude
VobBlanker shouldn't be required here.

Your problem could be caused by a media issue, try another disk or another brand like verbatims.

Your drive might not be reading/recognizing the media correctly, when was the last time you performed a firmware update?

you can check here..http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

What are you using for a burning application (dvd decrypter, Nero, etc..)?

Thanks for the reply, johnl123.

My Nec 3540A has the 1.03 firmware which I think is the latest on their website.

I was trying out some of the new Taiyo Yuden discs I got. I remember trying it with the usual media I burn with, TDK, and it was still giving me the errors. I will try the Riteks also when I get home.

This is the first time this message popped up. I backed up waiting Disc1 with the Ty's with no problem.

Anything else it could be. Hmmm....

What burning app are you using to burn the image with?
If using Nero, make sure you have Nero set to write to a DVD-5 disk and not a CD by mistake.

Since you're burning an ISO image to disk, try using a free application called Imgburn. It's very easy to use and it's burning engine is an enhanced version of DVD decrypters, just tell it where the image is located, point the output location to your burner, specify a write speed (use 4X) then just click on the "hard drive to disk" icon and you're off. Give it a shot, you can get it here:

johnl123,

I am using imgtools with DVD Decrypter to burn the image from HD after DVD Shrink does its thing.

I will give imgburn a whirl when I get home. This is the first time that message came up in over 400+ burns although I mostly used Ritek's from Newegg and TDK's from Costco.

Its strange since most people also rave about the Ty's being the most reliable media out there.

No matter how good a product is, you'll almost always find one rotten egg in the bunch.

I tried all the media at my disposal and all of them give me the same message. This disc has me stumped. It seems like the only way to burn this disc is with multiple discs.

Anyone else backup this disc without incident???

I had done Disc 1 on Tuesday. I went ahead and tried disc 2 to see if I would have a similiar problem. No problem. DvdDecryptor - Shrink - Decryptor. If you haven't already done so, I would start over. I don't even have AnyDVD, and backed this up on a prodisc I had laying around.

I had this exact same problem when I was trying to back up disc 2. I was running AnyDVD in the background, then using DVD Shrink, then when I open up DVD Decrypter I got the same error. I'm going to try beltline's option of using Decrypter first, then shrink, then decrypter again and I'll let you know what happens.

There really isn't anything special to backing up disc 2 that I found? Another method you could try is:

DVDFabdecryptor
Shrink
DvdDecryptor (any burning software)

Something else you may try is uninstalling Decryptor, reboot, and reinstall. Better yet, install imgburn (new decryptor for burning only). Let us know how it turns out.

Okay you're getting this error after you already have an ISO that has been compressed and you are trying to burn it, right?

The only other thing I can think of is try burning it to File mode in shrink or Nero Recode2. Like I said before there wasn't nothing special about this disc. You could try converting it to file mode and burning it. At least then we would have a Nero log that could be disected? Not sure if it's worth the trouble.

On the bright side, at least you now have experience with DvdFab and Vobblanker. Next thing you should try is Nero Recode2. It's like shrink but much faster.
