There are no encumbrances about this disc. With Shrink, and then Decryptor, I was able to back this up easily. It goes without saying hat AnyDVD was running!

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Just for the heck of it I used shrink by it's lonesome. Nothing special on this one. Try ripping with DVD Decrypter or dvd fab decrypter 1st then running the files thru shrink.
Are you getting any error?

When it gets to 76% of scanning, It says

"DVD Shrink encountered and error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "f;\"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."

what is this and what causes it?

The most common times you will see the cyclic redundancy check error message is when trying to read data from a damaged or dirty DVD.

Try cleaning the disk and check for scratches or marks. If that doesn't work try another original disk.

As suggested, make sure the disc is clean and not scratched...could be a bad press, exchange for a new disc.

Did your try DVD Decrypter yet? In my experince it's the best ripper for discs w/bad spots which it sounds like yours has. It will be able to handle the protection on this disc too.
If that fails as the others said exchange it for a new one.
