Click Where, and look in the top left corner of every page for Shrinks original site. Looks to me like it's a sellout to corporate.

I doubt it's a corporate sell out. Shrink hasn't been updated in almost 2 years as the programmer works for Nero. So that may cause a conflict. It's also part of the reason shrink is no longer updated. The site in your link as arniebear said sounds like a ripoff - shrink has always been freeware. It still states this the legit website There are still many sites that have it for free.
There are so many ripoffs on the web trying to make a buck off of unsuspecting users. Unfortunately people fall for them.

Ok, that's understood about the guy who works for Nero, but it isn't totally impossible that the rights weren't sold off? If you read my response to Arniebear, you will notice, arnies link is advertising DVD Shrink 2006, and all links wind up going to the new "rip-off" site. The software retains the same shrink cover art. Appears as if the code has been sold and now the owner wants to make money off of freeware.

There was some discussion awhile back about DVD Shrink site going down, but it was decided to keep the site open for support. The site not longer hosts dl the program, but states up front it is freeware and to google for it. The site you link to wants registration in order to find out about the program, since I am not gonna do this I can't say what or who up to something. Unless the developer of Shrink left Nero and is going back into business, we can only wait and find out. The program needs some updating, but as far as I know you can still obtain it from the bbmayo site and it is free. There are plenty of people out there trying to make money selling free programs, just check out ebay.

Exactly, that's why I see it as a ridiculous. This is why I don't understand seeing somebody trying to profit off of something that is so widely, readily available for free. Whoever it may be, they should just continue the legacy and take donations. I just thought it's real silly. All I need is the framework that he left for shrinking and burning. I just use the protection removal drivers from AnyDVD in conjuction with it and it's a snap.

It appears that you pay to join the site which offers plenty of free downloads. So you are not buying DVD Shrink 2006, just access to it and other programs. Just my guess as I'm not going to pay to see what's on that site. What a rip off!

BTW, I've been using DVD Fab Decrypter 2.9.6.8, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter (to burn) to backup my current DVDs. All free programs. Just make sure to turn off AnyDVD and DVD43 if you have those running in the background. They will cause errors with DVD Fab Decrypter and DVD Shrink.

There has been some posts about the official DVD Shrink site being dead. Here's a summary of the facts:

* The author of DVD Shrink has always stayed anonymous, only a few people know his real identity

* The development of DVD Shrink has ended quite a long time ago, so it is now just a matter of how the last version of DVD Shrink will be distributed

* The official DVD Shrink website was setup, with the permission of the author (after consultation with me), by the author of DVDaDVDr.com. It is this website that is down at the moment

* Ironically, the website did not contain any direct download links to DVD Shrink, instead, it linked to other website that had the download

* The website was shut down after an abuse/violations report sent to the web host of the website (an US webhost). As long as the official website is relocated to outside of the US, or preferably to a country without unfair digital copyright laws, then the official site will be back again

* Much like how the official site is not directly affiliate with the author, the official DVD Shrink forum on this website is not affiliate directly with the author either, although he was a moderator and founder of the DVD Shrink sub-forum

* The main function of DVD Shrink doesn't actually break any digital copyright laws, but it includes a built in DVD ripper/decrypter (that doesn't fully work anyway, especially with the latest copy protected DVDs). There are many commercial software that acts exactly like DVD Shrink, but does not have the ripping portion, and they can be legally sold in the US.

* For now, you can download DVD Shrink from the following places:

DVD±R Digest (features foreign language versions, some based on an earlier version of DVD Shrink)
mrbass.com
afterdawn.com
