Hello, I'm a bit of a starter when It comes to DVD Movies, I know how to make Back Up's and that (with DVD Shrink) but I have some AVI movies on my comp, I want to put them on a dvd so I can watch it on my DVD player. I Have been reading the sticky's, but the link to the AVI to DVD thing doesnt work. I need a guide that is Simple, Easy, And Quite Straight Foward. Some information about my enquiry:

1) The AVI movie is usually in 2 split part's, Half, Half each.
2) How can I make The Quality better on the AVI.
3) A guide that is Region Free, (works on all DVD Players)

Thank's in Advance if you help me

I use Nero Vision Express... Load them in, make your menu, then burn... Easy as that... Here have this:

DivXtoDVD has been updated to ConvertXtoDVD. I'd suggest trying the trial to see if it will do the job. Get a copy at the VSO software site. It leaves a logo on the output, but it will let you know if it's something you want to pay for. It does a good quick job of converting AVI files to compliant DVD files. The app has a burn feature as well.

It's part of the Nero suite. In Nero 7 it is Nero Vision 4. In Nero 6 it was named Nero Vision Express. Avoid the Nero 6.6.1.4 (problems), I don't know if they still have trials for Nero 6, Nero 7 has unlimited trial downloads, it just has to be reinstalled periodically. Nero.com is the website, besides the software downloads, there are guides for several of the apps in the Nero suite.

I ran the new VSO prog. it recoded my AVI ok, but didn't
load any burn functions. The little box where my Benq 1620 should appear was blank and stayed blank.

Can I find and burn the file from ConvertX in Nero.

Also, I lost the place where the guide for this is. Only
thing available was from last year.

ConvertX has the Burn option.

If the converted file is larger than the target media, then you will need to transcode. Once converted, you handle the files as you would any other DVD files on your HD.

As for Nero, if you save the converted file to hard drive instead of burning, like any other DVD file, you can open it in Nero apps. You may want to check Options and tailor the settings to what you want. Just click General under the Settings tab to open the Options window.

I had a go at that app... It's not bad... But i think i still prefer NVE...
Also The Film Machine/CCE combo ain't bad either for those AVIs... I wasn't ready for CCE's encoding speeds...LOL

Permiggs,
There's something to be said about familiarity, other than it breeding contempt. LOL I have both Nero and ConvertX. ConvertX has a few more user controls and Nero Vision is pretty much auto. On these it pretty much boils down to user preference. Both work and the interface for both is easy enough that most users can use them without extensive study, if they just browse the controls. On these apps a lot depends on familiarity and personal preference.

Then you'd probably hate some of my software selections as I don't go for quick over quality. RB/CCE takes 2 to 3 hrs for an encode on my system (P4 3.4GHZ, 2x1GB CAS 2 RAM, HT-Dual Channel). I prefer the quality over the speed of the CloneDVD2. CloneDVD 2 is okay if the compression isn't high, but if one wants the entire contents of a DVD on a DVD5 or it's one of the blockbuster movies, then RB/CCE wins hands down. I have CloneDVD2, so I can compare the differences. I also have DVDCopy 4 and some other transcoder apps available as well. Viewing my backups on a 60 inch screen tends to show differences in video output.

If you want to try another quality transcoder, check out the DVDCopy from InterVideo, http://www.InterVideo.com . They have a full function trial (and no logos on the video output). It's very fast, and handles compression issues well, with good video and sound output. I still prefer RB/CCE when only the best will do though. ;)

You'll need someone with Nero 6 for help or check out the guides at Nero.com. I went up to Nero 7 and don't have the 6 loaded. With Nero Vision 4, all you do is select Nero Vision 4 and a wizard leads you all the way through with options listed on the program window. A 20 minute MPEG in AVI takes about 25 minutes to convert to compliant DVD. That's about 1.2 GB. NV4 has a preview option and you can burn or save to a HD folder.

That's part of the upgrade from Nero 6 to 7. Nero 6 has NVE3 and Nero 7 has the NV4. Similar to VSO upgrading the DivXtoDVD up to the ConvertX. A lot of people are saying their Nero 6 is plenty good enough. I wonder if they've taken a look at all the options, or maybe they don't need all the improvements. Some people just use Nero to burn.

NVE is pretty straight foward, just follow the rabbit and you should be safely home in no time...
I believe(Brobear knows MHO on this) that what you get with the NV4 package isn't worth the change. I know i'll eventually change tough...
I think this is one of AD's oldest ongoing arguments: What app? LOL
At the moment all i use is a 28' telly or my 17' TFT, Before, i had a 43' LCD... Major quality is not a priority to me anymore.
In Brobear's 60' telly you'll need A LOT of quality because you can even see a fly's bad teeth in it... LOL

LOL The witticisms are going to get me yet. I agree, just the difference between NVE3 and NV4 wouldn't warrant a change in itself. There's a bunch of upgrades and many to address newer technology such as the DL burning, plus additonal apps. So the package as a whole is why I upgraded to Nero 7. Nero 6 has some problems and if the latest update is an indicator, it's getting worse. A lot of people had to revert to 6.6.0.18 or older from the 6.6.1.4 to stop problems they were having with the burner apps.

My 60" telly has little to do with whey I changed to Nero 7. I have to say I'm a bit of a software junky. I like new versions, especially when there's a noticable difference and something new and/or improved over the old.

LOL If there wasn't people like you, i would be scared to acquire software... Someone has to try them before the masses...LOL

Nero is my app of choice, but i also use DVD Srink, DVD Decrypter, TFM, CCE, AVI2DVD, AnyDVD, Clone DVD 2, ConvertXtoDVD, DVDlab Pro, DVDNextCopy, Alcohol 120% etc, etc, etc... I have loads more of apps... Well, now that i think of it... I might not be the Nero junkie i thought i was... LMAO!!

Sounds like we need a local SJA chapter. Software Junkies Anonymous

I see you went ahead with the ConvertX acquisition. I still don't know which I like best, it or the NV4.

I'm having the same problem converting .AVI files from my pc to a DVD format. I used Turtle Beach's Video Advantage USB to capture images from my VHS tapes to my PC. I also have Nero StartSmart which will convert the .AVI file to a .mp4 format but still not suitable for a DVD player.
I am new at this stuff but I'm eager to learn. Please help me if you can.
