Breaker Pro won't boot PSX game on PS2 slim

Okay, hopefully I'm doing this right...

My PS2 has been properly modded: the disk spins when the cover is open. I put in Breaker
Pro, it boots fine. I hit select game. It tells me to put in the disk and press any button. I do. It
says Now Booting... and it seems to just get stuck at that screen. The disk keeps spinning but
nothing is happening. Laser isn't looking for data or anything.

I have a v13 PS2 slim I'm booting the import PSX game from. Why isn't it working?

Do I need to use one of those "something killer" options with the boot disk?

Edit: The game is Guitar Freaks (1st mix). Is it possible it just doesn't work with some games?
