I replied to a posting about W&G being too big for a single disc, so I just burned the main movie. Unfortunately, I went to watch the movie and it is all fragmented and the audio is screwed. I only have the origianl decrypted file of the movie on my HDD, since it was my stepdaughter's and she went back to her father's. I was hoping to find a quick solution rather than having to get the origianl disc back. I have run it through VOB Blanker numerous times; I have tried to delete just the BUP files (still too big); I have used MenuShrink several times; I re-authored it in DVD Shrink so that I could only rip the main movie (resulting in the original problem). Is there something else I can do? AnyDVD? CloneDVD????? I would really like to find the easiest way without having to purchase additional software. Help please........

There is no need to use VobBlanker on this movie there is nothing special about it. You should be able to do this one with Shrink on its own.

You would be better with movie only, then there is no compression. There is a lot of junk on the disk what with the DC's and audio. AnyDVD only works if you have the original disk. Clone will open and compress your file. If you had playback problems sounds more like bad media, burning to fast or you may need a firmware update.

I tried to burn just the main movie again without anything, and the audio is great, just the video is still fragged. Should I choose a different compression rate? The media I am using is good as far as I know. All the other burned DVDs I have are from the same media. Could the original be bad? I won't know until I see my stepdaughter again. But we watched the original and it was fine. Could it be my player? I know that some of my DVDs work better in different drivers? I really don't what I am doing wrong. I have been ripping for about a year and a half, but that is still not long in the tech world.

Private message sent (with info not for forums).

1) Make sure to Defragment your hard drive before attempting again.
2) Make sure there is no dust build-up in your system (ie. fans, case, etc.)
3) Make sure the rip is not corrupt. AND
4) Make sure your programs, firmware (etc.) are up to date. (alot changes in a year)

I've tried and tried and I'm still getting a fragged video stream. I've run out of things to do, but I want to burn this so I can give it to my niece for her birthday next week. I'm at the end of my rope and I feel my grip slipping. I need help...Bueller, Bueller, Bueller...

Try CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. Free trial at www.slysoft.com

I have yet to run into a movie that this can't handle.

Hi,
My aunty wanted to back her copy of Wallace & Grommit - Curse of the Were Rabbit but all teh programs I installed for her were having none of it. I used:

DVD Decrypter
DVD Shrink
DVDFAB Decrypter
AnyDVD

All would read the disc upto about 60% then just stop, and the drive would just make a clunking noise as if it wouldn't read the disc.

I tried the Interpreter as well and that did the same.

Why is this? What else can she do?

Sounds like a bad disks, try cleaning them or take them back for another original. DVDFab Decrypter or AnyDVD should have no problem with these movies.

Yes I also thought it may be the disc. I checked them both and none had scratches on them. And to have both movies struggle at the same point I thought it was a bit weird. Her drive is only +R writer, has that got anything to do with it?

The fact that it is a +R drive does not matter, that only means you need to use +R media. The drive is only reading data on an original. The disks can have some imperfection in them that you can't see. Sometimes using another drive to rip will work. I went through three originals of Collateral before I got one that worked. You can always check and make sure your drive has not slipped into PIO mode to be safe.

But as stated the programs you are using should have no trouble with these movies.

Ok, thanks PAL.

I'll try that then, it was just that everytime when it wouldn't copy both discs got to about 57-60%. Just thought it was odd that boths discs were doing it.

Didn't work :(

Just gets to 55% or around there and stops reading. Though we managed to back up another original DVD without any problems. What the hell can it be?!

just DVD Shrink on it's own should be sufficient for this movie.

Thats what I thought, but no it just decides to stop reading movies (recent movies) at that point.

Did it tonight - DVD Shrink with AnyDVD in background - no problems.

Seems like you have either a faulty disk or a faulty burner.

Alternatively your system may require defragmenting.

I'll try a defrag and let you know.

Also with some of these movies, the extras and director commentaries can be a real pain in the ass.

With Shrink use re-author mode to do main movie only and turn off director commentary options.
