I had always used DVD cases, but recently purchased the 200 holder like the meritline one you posted. Just got it and have just started using it. A little too early to tell the effectiveness. I will say it will be a lot easier to take movie's on trips. Also the meritline case is more air tight than Dvd Cases and I won't have to print DVD covers anymore.
I believe it's going to be each individuals preference. However I have read countless times not to store them stacked on each other. Keep them stored vertically.

Cases?
My God, I got mine in anything available. Large 200+ cd wallets/ full hub printables with covers in the full size vinyl case. Full size slim single and doubles. Even slim jewel packs. I've got discs everywhere!!! It's a nightmare, LOL
I store all my videos vertically. The full size cases barely fit my custom made wall rack. Jewel cases won't fit them. I'm running out of room on that wall rack,so I am using the 200+ cd wallets. Everybody has their own opinion on how to store them,the main thing is store them vertically!

I keep them stored upright in soft poly jewel cases ( each capable of housing 2 disks for those movies that require it ) with a small cover photo along with a synopsis, year made and length printed on the front with a self stick paper with the title also on the spline for easy view. These are housed on shelves in my basement (constant 60 degrees - no humidity) in separate boxes without tops approximately 10"x24" by their alphabet letter (i.e.: a's together, b's together, etc. etc.). Slide out the box a little and search through the letter for your title. Very simple, neat and effective method.
I just use a simple Works Spreadsheet to manage the titles, four columns wide with small font, front and back. I put them in alphabetical order and allow spaces on each page for additions. I am now up to 4 pages. It is easy to expand to another page or move titles around with drag & drop and cut & paste features. I print a copy for easy referral. Also remember to back-up to disk, as it would be a chore to re-type if something were to happen to your computer.

I use CD wallets that hold about 96 discs. I place a miniature copy of the DVD front cover in the slot over the discs so they can be quickly identified thru the transparent holder and replaced in the correct place.

I store mine in some white "catch all" plastic baskets I got at Target for about a buck a piece. Each dvd is stored vertically in a slim line jewel case. This is just a temporary solution as I think I might be getting a couple of the cases from meritline. I sort of like those.

I've always put mine in full size cases, scan the jacket covers insert looks pretty good. The spare bedroom is the video storage room. Looks more like a video store with aisles racks arranged by abcd etc.

i use 240capacity wallets, very nice considering they're less than £4 each, i got 4 full (boy they're heavy) with a few spare for expansion, take up hardly any room and they're stored vertically. can never find what i want to watch but i tend to watch whatever i stumble on instead

the best way to go is what Teflon mentioned! I bought 2 600 cases from supermediastore.com: http://www.supermediastore.com/cd-dvd-storage-case-aluminum-metal... I add the location to each disc in my DVDProfiler program under OTHER FEATURES so I know where all my movies are located with a press of a button which tells me which case and what #! This is the best way to go, my 2 cents..... and someone will give me change, I'm sure! LOL

Like creaky, I like the Large CD wallets, they are cheap anough & hold a lot in a small space. Also, they're like a "book". Or even like a photo album, just flip through to find what you want to see. Everyone has some way they like though. What works for one, may not be the choice of another. Whatever works for each individual I say.

@BurningAs - beware when buying wallets that big. i had some 500capacity wallets, the same exact make as the 240 wallets i know use. the 500 one was way too cumbersome, more importantly it would have damaged the disks, just by opening the stupid thing. so i ditched those and went the 240 route, which are infinitely more managable

@creaky
I agree on those 240 cases they are about as much as I would go. I have two of those and they are pretty heavy when filled. I got a couple of the 120 which I like better.

@burningas
i don't think the case storage will damage the discs, i have 2 of the 510 capacity hard CASES from meritline here:
http://meritline.com/cd-dvd-510-holder-wallet-holders-wallets-ehj...
using the coupon code, they are $39.99 w/ free shipping, same price i bought them for awhile ago...
also, i have many of those 240 capacity "binders" that creaky is speaking of..i don't use much higher capacity than that because of the obvious WEIGHT of them once fully filled...i store them upright to relieve the pressure/weight of the discs on them...
we all have our own preferences on how to store our backups, i utilize a few strategies of this and use both the "binder-style" cases as well as the HARD PLASTIC cases as i linked above~ use whatever works WELL FOR YOUR NEEDS and available storage space in your home~ :)

After reading these posts, I decided to order one of those 510 cases fron Meritline. With 20. off and free shipping, I'll give it a try. The sleeves appear to be able to slide the disk out from the center hub. I figure to make a spreadsheet of the titles, etc., with slot number for ease of locating disk. This appears to be the most secure and compact method. My current method works great, but this will certainly save some space if it works out.

I just ordered one also. I had been looking at them, but the $20 off coupon and free shipping mentioned by DocTy sealed the deal.

i try and "share the wealth"...that's what i'm here for...these 510 cases work WELL FOR ME, i chose to get 2 of the 510 cases rather than the larger 720 or 1000 capacity as i think if i were to completely fill them up, they would be quite heavy~ :) these 510 cases are a good size and they're easily mobile...
good luck to you guys that just ordered one, i haven't been disappointed yet with mine, you guys should be pleased too~ :)

I have over 850 backed up dvds, I keep them all in paper sleeves in alphabetical order. I used to use plastic sleeves, they ruined my discs, so I would advise against them due to my own personal experience. I have found a 3 drawer chest that holds them quite nicely with dvd cases as a separator for the rows. 3 rows to each drawer. So the suitcase jammy I would say sucks because it uses the plastic crap sleeves.

@Tralblazr How did they ruin your discs? Why are all the CD holders made of plastic? Some are a bit tight tho. Just curious?

sure , the thing is , I print on my dvd's so therefore when I put them into the sleeves, I put them label up you know so you can read it well. The plastic sleeves have a bit of plastic on the top and the disc sits there on top of that, you can put them under this(pain in the ass). So for one it sits on top of the plastic and for some reason it ate away at my discs all in that spot. #2 reason is the drag marks it puts onto the discs when you pull them in and out. Paper sleeves have done neither of these to my dvd's. They have all been kept in perfect shape. Take my word for it plastic cases with the little felt or whatever in the back sucks-

Hi glad to know you guys are finding the solution that works for you. I wil proabably order that 510 hard case also.
BTW: after you get that mass compacity case or any other case, you organize your dvds very easily using this FREE program: http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog/ IT automatically retrives you DVD info from places such as imdb, and other places.
