Well...it is from Best Buy...so it's not top quality stuff. But each shelf holds 55 slims without being too snug and it's only in my den so it works for me.
I've tried full size dvd cases, wallets, metal cases, and a few other ways to store them and this is what works the best for me. I think the shelf was about $60.
I use to use a Works database until I came across Collectorz.com. Now I use their game and movie program. You type in the game/movie title and the prog automatically downloads the info, including covers, from the net then you can edit anything if needed.

i notice everyone is using big cases etc. - i have a good solution for anyone who wants to keep as many dvds - cds in the smallest amouth of space - i have over 800 dvds and i use these snap together cardboard type boxes - they are black and snap together with 4 snaps in the front and 4 in the back with a cover - they fit the dvds perfect if you use paper sleeves which i do to keep the space down and fit about 180 dvds in one of the boxes -- the dvds fit in there like a glove - perfect fit so its the least amounth of room you need - and the best part
they cost about 5$ each -- i number the paper sleeves and have a spreadsheet with each dvd and correct number so i can find them - each box has a opening in the front to put a label - which i label with the number of the dvds in there - example - box one would say - 1 thur 180
next box would say - 181 thur 260 etc. --
works pretty good for me and the least expensive -
if anyone has a better idea - let me know
thanks

Much to my gf's aggravation, I continue using full size dvd cases (25$ for 100). I have 3 large bookshelves 6'X4' in the living room that are way overloaded. I guess it's time to start storing some in my extra bedroom. It's great though, to see people's faces the first time they walk in my house! I use DVDProfiler to track my collection.

I got mine on Monday and it does it the same thing. At first, I thought it was broken. However, you can slide the top to the right and take it off the hinges. Just put it back on and slide it all the way to the left and it will be fine. Not sure what the purpose is of taking it off.

That is the way it is made. It will work great, as it allows you to access your entire collection without having the cover in the way or putting any undue stress on the case hinges. I have yet to start using it, but I did put a couple disks in the sleeves, and I know I will be pleased with this set-up.

Thanks Doc, I went to purchase another one earlier but was only getting $20 off. I just used your coupon code, got 100 TY Printables and the case for under $80 shipped. Had some Verbatim 8x DVD+R in the cart, but they wanted over $9 to ship a 50 pack :( Removed those and just bought the TY's with free shipping.

theJANK,
I will be keeping a small cover photo, synopsis, etc. in a notebook, say three movies to a page. It will also list the slot number of the sleeve it is in. I will probably use Word or some other program and just cut and paste. I have yet to start using this case, but it will be soon, as my poly jewel cases are almost gone. This way I can browse the notebook. All my movies, regardless of where I store them, are on a master list in alphabetical order using a Works spreadsheet.

Thanks for the ideas for 'new' DVDs and CDs - Yeah I am all over that already with either Sharpie or Neato making lables.
Ahem, I was asking about what are you doing with your EXISITING store-bought official CD and DVD covers??
DVD covers are the big one because they have no chance of fitting in any CD/DVD slot.
So what are we doing?
1) scrapbooking them? Ugh. (I'll have to have my wife help there in any case)
2) leaving them in a pile or a box squirreled away in some fogotten place. Ugh again
3) Some kind of kludgy binder nearby the meritline 510 case. so-so
4) toss /em?!! Blasphemy!
C'mon, there must be lots of you who are converting your shelf space to cases. What are you doing with the covers (back, front and inside)?
Thanks

I leave my existing (store bought) DVD's on the shelves as I prefer them that way plus my store bought CD's are on shelves too. No need for me to put them in the Caselogic cases even though I have several hundred DVD's & a few hundred CD's. It's like my roughly 10,000 disc record collection is kept on shelves instead of boxed (accessable) as some collectors do.
Only things that go into the Caselogic cases are those discs I burn myself.

@bhetrick, damn bro, that's sick makes me wanna change it up from my paper cases, I know that those are better way to store becuase those cases hold the disc slightly above the bottom of the case. Best set up I've seen yet!

hi,
For those of you who are looking for a great catalog program... http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog/
I think this is simply the best program. You can get full detailed info on every movie with a click of a button. It automatically lins up with IMDB to DL info for movies.
ALL FREE!

Re storage: I've used folders in the past and often found a disk scratched simply from being left in the folder. I discovered the slappa brand wallets and have been using them for months now. They are incredibly sturdy, well-made, and the double sleeve design protects my disks. I use the cd cases for dvds- the main difference is the size of the data pocket.
Amazon sells these at a huge discount. I haven't tried the 600 disk one but I think that's going to be my next purchase. I imagine it's very heavy but the wheels will help. I've seen it at amazon for $85. My 360 is full and not too heavy. http://www.slappa.com/site/cd_cat.html
