I've been using mine for awhile now with no problems. I really find it hard to believe that carefully taking them in and out of the sleeve would eventually render them useless. I have seen some go into my player from rental stores that looked like someone played frisbie with the dog and they played just fine.

Well, I just recieved the case about 15 minutes ago, and I just got done putting in the sleeves. The first thing I didn't really like was the pill shaped hole in the middle. In most sleeves I've seen, the hole in the middle extends to the top like this:
Meritline is like this:

With that pill shape I have a hard time getting the disc out of the sleeve. I also tried sliding some discs in and out of the Meritline sleeves, but didn't notice any hairline scratches(I was holding the tab back). I did this with Ritek R03's and MCC-004's. I haven't tried this out with TY02's yet, but so far the sleeves seem to be snug and not overly tight..

The case itself is very nice. I especially like the ability to lock it up and keep my discs safe from family members.

EDIT: Images were too big, so I lowered the resolution.

Thats what Iv'e been trying to explain, that whole the case sleeves come with as you call it "pill shaped", is what is putting so much preasure on the discs. And im thinking about buying seperate sleeves like the 1st picture in your post for the case. I think that will help it alot. Even tho they wont be hangable it will prevent the sleeve from scratching the discs by quite a bit.

What media are you using? I can see that the "pill-shaped" hole is annoying for getting the discs out, but I don't really notice anymore pressure than what my other sleeves have. Couldn't you just cut the meritline sleeves a bit more? Maybe put in a metal insert and use a razer blade to make the hole bigger/better? May not be pretty, but atleast they will hang like intended.

Here's another idea that is cheap and doesn't take up too much space. I use plastic Ziploc containers (the big rectangular ones, maybe 10" long) and tape a piece of bubble-wrap on the bottom (to keep discs from slipping -- it works great!). I put discs into paper sleeves (I know some don't recommend them, but I've had no problems so far and they are cheap, $40 for 1,000 sleeves or something like that) and label the sleeves -- just writing on them with pencil if I'm in a hurry, or if I have time I add a nice typewritten label (a file folder label, actually) with the title of the film, the length, rating, etc. I label each Ziploc container on the front just by taping a 2"x2" labeled piece of paper to it, e.g. "Movies A-H" or "TV Shows C-E" or whatever. Since my collection is quite large (probably close to 2,000 discs right now), I separate letters of the alphabet (for movies) or series (for TV shows) using labeled plastic tabs (like the kind music stores use for CDs -- in fact I use the same ones for my CD collections).

Each Ziploc container can hold at least 120 discs, so in 30" of bookcase space (1 shelf) I can store 500+ discs. The whole system is very inexpensive and easy to maintain -- I keep one Ziploc container labeled "TO BE FILED" and when that gets too near full, I file the discs away where they belong.

BTW I use the Ziploc containers because they fit great on my bookcases, which are 30" wide and 12" deep. If I had deeper shelves, I could use plastic shoeboxes instead -- they would work just as well and have a bit greater capacity.

It might sound complicated, but once it's set up, it's a snap to keep up. I buy labels, tabs, sleeves, etc. in bulk once or twice a year and Ziploc containers whenever I'm at the grocery store. One bookshelf's worth probably costs $5-6 total to set up so it is VERY economical!!

I enjoy reading others' suggestions too but so far my system works great for me!

@Draugr

The reason you have probably not seen an scratches yet is probably because your being extra careful cause you knew alrdy. I handle mine very well also, except I happen to notice 2 discs with scratches on it. I have recently held back the top, and havent seen any scratches latly. But it is alot more work with that pill shaped hole in the sleeve then without it, less chance of scratches is what im saying.

@karen2003

Interesting way, I would have to see it to understand it totally, any pictures or anything?

I also like reading peoples ideas and comments.

I used to do it sort of like Karen. Except, instead of Ziploc, I used plastic Rubbermaid Keepsake boxes from Wal-Mart...
And, yes, you do have to be careful with the sleeves in the aluminum cases, but I guess I am just "anal" like that anyway... Too many years in the military, I suppose. If anyone DOES happen across better sleeves, by all means, let us know. Everyone is not as careful with my discs as I am, so I am always for a better method. I take my case on every deployment and my discs can definitely use all of the help that they can get!

@storm1234

I guess maybe you are right... I am extra careful when dealing with these sleeves. Let us know how those OD sleeves work for you.

@karen2003

Heh, whatever works.

I am still waiting for my second Meritline box (black this time)

As for the 'scratching', it's too early to tell for me as I keep the upper flap out of the way when I insert/remove the disks.

Also, I am only using them for my music CDs. I have tossed all my jewel cases (!) and use the u-back covers as separators (they stand up nicely) between the hanging folders that contain the CD & the inner booklet. If the stuff is 'too thick', then only 1-cd goes into the hanging folder, not 2.

I filled my silver box with my whole shelf-full of electronic music and I had lots of extra folders. Overall, this is a good solution for me instead of taking up walls of space.

UPDATE JULY 2006: My 5th box is on order - these are working out wonderfully to hold my over 1000+ music CD collection spanning ABBA to Zappa. Highly recommended.
I wish I had ordered more of the 'silver' boxes when they were the SAME price as the black ones 'cause I would like the silvers to differentiate my electronic and jazz music from the rock/pop A-to-Z music.

Anyone know "how" to get the Meritline silver boxes for $39.99?? heh

Can someone link me to the tabs like bhetrick has on page 2 of this thread, like 1-200 whatever #. He said he got them from staples, so if you could link me to them. I went there couldn't really find anything, but I dont know what exactly what im looking for its hard to tell how he has that done in the pictures. I would be very appreciated.

Thanks Storm~
