I have the same i/o error when using DVD Decrypter but it is doing it when I am transfering the information to my hard drive, before I ever even think about burning to media. any ideas on what the problem could be or how to fix it?

Are you trying to do rip a copy or an original disc? I/O errors are usually caused by faulty discs - i.e dirty, scratched, bad press, poor quality media etc. How far in the process do you get?
Try cleaning off the disc 1st.
