Hello everyone

Just got started with this process and I finally managed to burn my first succesful DVD (Longest yard) with DVD X Copy Platinum 3.2. I used a Sony DVD-R 1X/8X. The disc seemed to work great . I watched the whole movie but near the end it started skipping and acting like I was losing satelite signal if that sounds familair to anyone. Does this sound like anything I did wrong (DVD X) automatically sets burn speed to the disc so it burned at 7.9X. Is this the problem because darn I got about 40 more of these DVDS. Not to mention I bought a packet of Memorex DVD+RW 4X but my recorder won't support RW at 4X so I'm screwed on those DVD's as well.

Hi

First step: Ditch those Memosux discs, They are brilliant for one thing, and one thing alone: coasters!

I think your problem is that you're burning too close to the edge there. Those Sony DVD's are good, stick with them... Try to keep it within 4300Mb with DVD Shrink.

If it ain't broken it doesn't need fixing...

Permiggs is correct but I would also add the fact that you burned at maximum! Try setting the program to burn at 4x ..... it does help..... and get rid of those Memosux disks..... you'll be glad you did!

How do you set the program to burn slower? It sets itself automatically as far as I can see. DVD X Copy Platinum 3.2

I believe x-copy can only burn at 4x max!

Issues at the end of your backups may be because they were burned too close to the outer edge. Try reducing that backup target, but again,I have no Idea how to do it with x-copy.

Lots of ex- x-copy users that are here. Most of us go with dvd shrink and burn with nero/dvd decrypter/or copytodvd. Dvd shrink is free and so is dvd decrypter. You may want to try them because it's nice to have several options when it comes to ripping the newer releases.

Sony -1x-8x discs should be pretty decent. They are made in Japan and Taiwan. Ty-g02 are being posted every where as one of their manufacturers.Or you'll get Sony08D1 on the rest. Look on the outer yellow label for the country they were manufactured in and let us know what it says. An MID code would also help out.

I can't help you out with x-copy. But sounds more like you have a simple playback issue. Try viewing one of those backups that has issues and play them on the pc using the dvd-rw drive that burned them. It should play near perfect. If it acts up on the pc in that same area, then you may have gotten a hold of some bad discs or burned the edge of the disc.If you have any other stand alones, test them out in those and see how they react to them. The more drives, the better understanding of what is wrong with those backups.

You can also try the bottom of that spindle. Maybe that issue may clear up and you just ran into a bad area of that spindle.

What's your dvd-rw drive brand name/model#/and current firmware version?

I have to say ditch X-Copy and use Shrink with DVD Decrypter to auto-burn. I speak first hand , being an X-Copy user in the beginning. Another program along with these you will want is DVDFab Decrypter (always keep it updated). This program will rip some of the newer DVD's with recent encryptions, as Shrink and Decrypter are not being updated anymore, but they are still great programs. Without going into great detail here in this post, refer to these guides below for ease of use:

DVD X COPY I think burns as fast as the DVD allows . I might be wrong but it reads 7.9X copying speed when burning to these 1X/8X discs. Shrink I have no clue yet but don't that reduce quality? The yellow label on my packet of Sony's says "made in japan". Don't know what a MID code is but here is what i found on the label 50DMR47LS3. Laberl also says Accucore. My DVD RW Drive is a
Liteon 16X DVD+/- Rw Drive Model SOHW-1693S14C. Comes with Nero Vision Express 2 and Power DVD.

Thanks for all the input. I'm a moron on a crash course when it comes to computer stuff.

DVD decrypter sounds like good advice but where and how do I get it? Whats the going price or can I obtain it free?

Dvd decrypter is free. I has a couple different modes and the size of the dvd you are ripping.

For larger DVD-9 movies and backing them up to single layer DVD-5,you'll use file mode. You rip in file mode to your hard drive. These will have to be compressed, via DVD Shrink which is also free.

For a 1:1 copy like DVD-9 to dl media or DVD-5 to single layer media, you use DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read and write. Iso read to hard drive/ISO write/locate mds files/open/and burn

Dvd shrink: This program can rip and compress. It also can autoburn using nero6/dvd decrypter/and CopyToDVD. IMGburn may also work with it? This program is also free.No longer updated, but is still a highly recommended program.

I bypass dvd decrypter's file mode. I use DVD Shrink to rip/edit out extra stuff or keep entire disc/compress it to hard drive/and autoburn with Nero. It also has some great quality enhancements for those highly compressed backups. You'll have to make sure all your settings are correct. DVD Shrink can rip over 90% of the movies out there. Columbia and sony pictures do give it fits. A background ripper called AnyDVD by slysoft helps out that issue. Majority of these programs are in the software tab under rippers. There's a couple settings in DVD Shrink to alter, but DVD Decrypter works great with it's default settings. DVD Decrypter is also no longer updated.I don't use it in file mode, only ISO mode for re-ripping copies and DL backups.ISO mode is a lot quicker than using DVD Shrink only.
