Here are some great guides done by alkohol that should answer all of your questions, this guy really knows his stuff.
Here http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/271 -- it's called "To backup any dvds with DVD Decrypter, PSL plugins + FixVTS, VobBlanker and Nero Recode 2 by Alkohol". This is possibly one of the best method ever to successfully rip and backup any dvds/movies, regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS.

This is what is available,
AnyDVD
DVDFAB Decrypter
DVD43
Most use AnyDVD or DVDFAB Decrypter as the last one is not updated regularly

Many people have great luck when they use DVDFab Decrypter (http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm) along with Shrink or Recode. It is sometimes necessary to run the Fab files through VOBblanker before running through Shrink or Recode, but I have yet to find a movie that I cannot copy with this method.

Vob Blanker has never failed me, or anyone else apparently...I'd actually use that in stead of AnyDVD because it's free...I personally use DVD Decrypter , and DVD Shrink works just fine for me, but I do experiment with other progs...those just happen to be my favorites.

@ebega
I'm with you on this case. Hence, even some Newbies or members are having issues ripping new released with AnyDVD running in the background. Maybe it's an "operator's fault" only.
Yes, it is TRUE that DVDFAB Decrypter can rip the movie (VIDEO_TS file) into the hard drive successfully, but when trying to "transcode" (especially the latest movies) with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, it will still come up with errors such as "red bar = not compressable" this is a well known ARccOS protection and an "out of memory" this is a typical RipGuard protection. So you'll need VobBlanker to "process and filter" out those junks, craps, dummy cells, pgcs or fake/encrypted sectors.
I have never ran into any dvds/movies that VobBlanker can not process whatsoever. Once ripped by DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter into the hard drive, then process with VobBlanker and the rest is history, end of misery period.
Best of lucks to all!!

Exactly why I use Blanker, AnyDVD might work for most DVD's, but VOB Blanker works for ALL. I have AnyDVD, but rarely use it now...

cricemo,
Go w/ whatever works for you. Just D/l VobBlanker as a helper when needed if DVDFAB Decrypter has a problem w/ the DVD Structure.
