the psp is recognized as "Sony PSP Usb Device" but it just doesn't show as a drive
any suggestions?

That is a memory stick problem try removing the stick and putting it back in. Its detected the connection between psp - pc but it is not detetcting your removable disk ie. memory stick its happened to me b4 and thats all i had to do, unless youve sumhow stuffed your memory stick

I've tried changing the memory stick to another one and it still doesn't work. I put in the memory stick into my digital camera and I can view the contents on the computer through the camera but it still doesn't work with the PSP.

1. Try different usb ports on your comp (it may or may not be USB2.0 problem,
2. Have you tried formatting the stick using the psp?
(Ofcourse copy the good stuff out with your digital camera first.)
3. If all the above fails have you got service pack 2?
Also you could try another USB cable usually its the cable, maybe one that came with your camera? or mp3?

Well i saw someone else with the same problem and this is what they did..
idk if it will work but ill put it out there anyway
start up the psp w/o a memorystick and not attached to the pc at all in and go into usb mode
its going to say connect a usb cable.
connect the usb cable the the psp snugly(dont put it through the psp, jus make sure its inserted all the way)
then attach it to your computer..
then insert the memory stick in.

hope that works..
did u install any new updates or software lately?

Are you running windows xp? cause if you are try running system restore to a point that you remember it reading your memory stick... hopefully that works

What you need to do is find out where the problem is ?

So its not the memory stick. Try using a friends computer, maybe its your comp. If your friends comp detects the removable disk then you might need to reinstall windows or update windows. Remember try cables first

Well after posting numerous messages on various forums, my problem turned out to be a cheap USB cable. Bought a MadCatz cable and it works flawlessly, as did the no-name one 2 months ago.

So....the no-name was $15 and the madcatz was $10.... on a retractable wheel too.

Conclusion, start with the cheapest method first - the cable.

dssking - yeap usually the cable.
Remember its not guaranteed to work after a reinstall!!!! Its your last resort.
search windows for this file, sum guy had the same probl and had to install this, USBSTOR.SYS
You could try updating to service pack 2,
or you could do a system restore like Joeva said, and go back to a time when you remember it working correctly. See if it works, All else fail
You may want to go here, and read maybe it can help you?

HEY PIECE!!!!!! that some guy was me! lol

but um DaiKenKai.. still try a budds cord, it still may be the cord even if it works on another computer... trust me on this one. i went through a two week ordeal with my psp and i didnt think it was the cord cause it worked on another computer.. turned out that it was the cord..

Did you try and system restore like i said? Cause if not you gonna have to do what piece says and backup what u can and reboooooooooot windows( which still aint guaranteed to work.).. jus check and make sure that your comp has usbstor.sys in the c:/windows/system32/drivers folder before you reboot. cause if not thats what ur missin
